Mounting a pair of T55

Post by Rodbelan » Wed Jan 31, 2024 8:38 am

I finally replaced my Glittertind with its contemporary representation: the Madshus T55...

I was mounting my Rotte ST and I realized that the wood core is fragile; if I torque the screws a tiny bit, I can strip the holes! So I have decided to use epoxy... I hope that I will be fine... One of the hole is kind of... stripped! But I filled it with a good epoxy. I will not use these with plastic boots, only leather. Did you have that sort of experience before? Did you pull out?

I re-used holes once, and I had a screw spin. I stuffed some steel wool in the hole and used epoxy. The binding was a Vice, so plastic boots.
Once the epoxy cures, it will be as strong as the epoxy bond. When the screw spins, it doesn’t pull the binding tight. It’s most likely that the other screws were enough to pull the binding down flat and tight.

Ok Fish... Thanks. I think I will be alright. If something occurs, I will use brass inserts... The binding mounted is indeed flat, even if a screw spins a bit...

This is a problem with many new skis. It was never an issue with old hardwood skis.

I still had to mount the heel riser/piece... I tried a slightly smaller drill bit — between 3 and 3.5 mm. Much better.
