Spend $300 on the Crispi and modify the bill
I was actually just thinking this would be an option for you. Shouldn't too difficult to just glue some 4mm plastic shims on top, eh?

Yeah I've done 3 pairs of boots. It just seems a shame to do a beautiful handmade Italian Norwegian stitched boot like that

Dang man that is not good news. I was looking at those 2 boots. I know the Crispi would fit my feet, but it appears confirmed it is not a good match for my Voile bindings. All my 3 pin are various Voile. Next hope was the Altai BC but I also have a wide forefoot. What to freaking do?! Spend $300 on the Crispi and modify the bill or get the Alico and try to stretch the toe box that has a rand......
The fit is just weird. My big toe has excessive room, my little toe is pressed against something hard, there is excessive vertical volume in the toe box, and my inner metatarsal pushed against the rubber rand. The rubber rand is hard without much give. Heel pocket is MASSIVE.
I don't know, maybe it would fit someone.

I have my Merrel ultras which fit great, but are overkill for a lot of stuff. At least I have one great boot.

I was hoping for something a bit beefier than the Bre. The Bre is good for mellow terrain skinny skis, but I wanted something for mid width skis when my Merrel Ultras with their reinforced cuff are too much.
Svartisen, is really versatile
That's what I was wondering. It looks really beefy, but I've heard its not as supportive as it looks.

Basically I want something with medium sole stiffness but enough flexibility in the cuff for kick and glide. My current boots, Merrel Ultras, are similar to the Asolo extremes with a soft plastic laminated in the cuff. Great for downhill control, fine for a touring shuffle, not effective for kick and glide unless it's a downhill angle. I want something a step down from that. The Alpina Alaska is pretty ideal but doesn't fit.

Do you know if that Svartisen is a little more generous in width and volume like the Bre? I like a snug toe fit, but certain materials are too hard and give me a hard snug when I'm looking for a softer snug, if that makes any sense.

Wondering about duckbill thickness on the Svartisen. Modifying is ok if it's the best option.

Crispi boots fit me the best of any boot. I love the Svartisen. If I could change one thing it would be a little more stiffness in the forward flex. Because of that the k&g is awesome. I'm just looking for something lighter for long flatter tours. It is great touring though and not really heavy. Keep the instep strap tight and loosen the top strap and your good all day.

They sound great but might be a bit redundant with my current boots. Looking for something for flatter to rolling terrain. Something that would be a good fit for my transnordic 66 skis, or maybe making some mellow powder turns with mid width skis.

There is a pair of Antarctics in my size on ebay. Seller accepts returns and they are in the same state as me. I've held a crispi antartic before (not my size) and it was definitley stiffer than the Bre. But not a super chunky supportive boot by any means. The Bre is very soft.
Worth a try? I haven't been able to find anything on the fit of the older Antarctics.

I thought the Bre and Antarctic were basically the same.

If they are older model they are probably smaller. I ordered an old Crispi Mountain in 40 from ebay. I have Bre and Nordland Hook in 40. The Bre is the most comfortable and best fitting ski boot I have ever had on, the Nordland Hook fit is similar but maybe a little smaller. The old model Crispi Mountain fits ok with a light sock but I wish it were 0.5 sizes longer and 1 full size wider in the forefoot area. I may try to stretch them a bit, but even as is they will work with a thin sock and were 40 bucks off ebay and in decent shape and stiffness for being quite old. If I ever order an older Crispi off ebay again I will likely get 41 instead of 40.

The sole on the Bre is very flexible. I can easily bend it in my hands with not a lot of force.
The brand new, old stock pair of Antarctics that I put my hands on took a lot of force to bend the sole with my hands, typical of most BCXC boots.
Unless the Antarctic changed a bit over the years.

Hm, that's odd. I can only moderately flex them with hands. And even wearing them in the house (I have yet to ski them) the sole flex seems a bit stiffer than I was expecting based on comments here.

Also, see my above post on the older Crispis, I edited it while you were responding.

I'm thinking the Bre is the answer and instead of mucking up the boot with a shim, I'll come up with a shim for the bale on the binding.

@JB TELE I’m a pretty big fan of 75 mm, but for a ski like a TN 66 why not just go NNN BC? There are lots more choices. NNN-BC is better downhill than most 75 mm set ups without the cable.
As for anyone shimming a Voile binding, the Rottefella Super Telemark works much better with leather boots, and definitely with thin duckbills. They aren’t that expensive. Someone else will always buy your Voile 3-pins.
