That was early in my canoe tripping career and I must not have been taking an axe or saw yet or I would have used them to cut off those antlers. The big knife was mostly for hacking poles if needed or batoning wood for the fire. I now take an axe and saw and leave that knife home.

There was only one other time when I actually needed that knife. I came upon some kids having a party by the river who needed a knife to cut their watermelon. They were pretty impressed when I pulled that one out.

Yesterday on soft snow in AK. My wife and I A-framed in with short classic NNN. 4000ft vertical, 11miles.

This kid I know took his S-Lab skate skis and an ice axe on this steep and deep line.

Thoughts on trimming for turns. This is a section of burn scar from a fire last October. Bottom of slope runs about 10 deg., top is 20 deg. I see a couple of possible lines from to top left to bottom right, .2 mi, 300’ vert. Most of trees left standing are dead 1-4” Aspen, and 4+” Lodgepole. Now that I can see that every tree standing is dead I was thinking of going up and doing a little trimming to open up a run. The land is National Recreation Area. I’m not sure if the Feds would take the time to hike up and chase me off. Thinking of Winter and S-98s already.

Skiing in august. tough day... 6 mile approach 4500ft vertical. lots of boulders to get here...only to find breakable crust. but can't complain, it was sunny most of the day.

Lower Spire, Alaska. 12 months of skiing complete.

Thanks! probably won't be able to do it. I'm going to spend most of september travelling. Going to Taos, NM and San Francisco this month. It will be hard to squeeze in a day of skiing in september.

However, weather permitting, that 2nd wk in Oct usually has great snow in the same spot...will try for Oct 10th when I get back from vacation.

First time posting!!!!
I’m Jimi, love the forum. I got into telemarking this year after my family and I moved to Dinner Plain in Victoria, Australia just outside Mt. Hotham. I’ve gotten into both XCD and NTN Telemarking.
We’re solidly into spring skiing here but with ongoing lockdowns in Melbourne not all the lifts are running.
My 4yo daughter’s been taken out a bunch of times by snowboarders in her first year skiing so she’s developed a fear of lifts and snowboarders. So, if we don’t go XC, I get to be “Daddy-Poma” and tow her up the hill all day with skins and a roof strap around my waist!!! Turns seriously earned!

Thanks for all your stories and photos, this place is the best!
