Sealing welted seams / rehash

I have read some other threads on what to do with the stitching/seam on welted boots, but seek further clarification and input.

Both my Crispis and Alicos had a rubberish/siliconish seal around these seams when new. I don't know what it was made of. It has started to peel. To repair, should I remove the rest? Just pull it off? Obviously don't want to use a knife near stitching. Then clean the area with anything in particular (acetone as @wabene has done)? Note, I have been using Zamberlan Hydrobloc as @lilcliffy suggests, albeit sparingly, on these boots and nothing else. Should I use Seam Grip as @phoenix has recommended elsewhere? Or something else? Sno-Seal would adversely affect the ability to resole if applied just in this particular area?

Thanks in advance.

It's been awhile MCA. Yeah I don't know what foolhardy advice I gave about using acetone on expensive leather boots, but I'd be careful with that. Maybe for cleanup before glueing. For sealing the welts I would go with Phoenix' advice and use Seam Grip. Got any snow over there?

Winter started slowly but it's actually pretty good now and looks to be so for a while. I have used polar as wax of the day more frequently than blue or warmer, so that's a good deal, and there is enough snow now for backcountry most anywhere around me or further north. How about by you?

For using Seam Grip will it matter that I have been using Hydrobloc in the area? I tried to read all I could find on this forum but this particular topic had less exhaustive coverage than it warrants, since that seam is such an important and vulnerable part of the boot.

Unlike waxy SnoSeal, I would think Seam Grip would bond just fine over the HydroBloc.

Once again we have had a dismal snowfall this year so far. We did get 3" yesterday and I had a really good Nordic run at a remote classic single track near me. I will be going back today. So far we haven't had enough for any backcountry downhill, just trail skiing and Nordic tracks.
