Snug boot fit in Voile bindings

Post by bmholt_ » Sat Feb 03, 2024 12:17 pm

Hey guys!

I've got an interesting query. I have two sets of 3 pin boots, a bulky Fischer BCX 675 and a lighter duty Rossi BC X6. Both of them have the thicker duckbill sole and both of them are a pretty snug fit on the sides of my Voile bindings, both the Voile HD Mountaineer and the Voile 3 Pin Cable binding. It seems the thicker soles used on both boots rub a fair amount on the edges of the bindings.

Because of this there is a bit of binding/drag in the kick phase of kick and glide, and the Rossi/HD Mountaineer combo is the worst for being profoundly squeaky (like annoyingly so, even more than just usual 3 pin noise) and pretty tight. The Fischers aren't as bad but those boots and cable bindings have been used a fair bit so they're quieter and don't bind as much. Wondering if there's been a trick discovered over the years to deal with the fit/noise or if it's just a matter of wearing them in to quiet them down. I've heard of people dremeling the boots to make a bit of room for that thicker sole but that seems drastic. Anyways, that's my random question for the day.

Thanks all!

@bmholt_ Just get some cheap auto parts store silicone spray. Liberally spray the inside surfaces of the binding before you go out. It will help with both your issues. A tight fit in the binding is a good thing. It works best if you spray the binding the night before to let the silicone dry. Once this is part of your routine it seems you only have to do it every few outings. It also helps with icing.

Ah silicone lube is a good call! My first thought was some kind of lubricant but I didn't want to use anything that was going to eat away at the rubber of the sole. I'll pick some up and give that a shot thank you

Update: Picked up some silicone lubricant on the way home. Worked like a charm, they've never been so quiet! Thank you, @wabene

The Rottefella binding is wider and typically has a lot less contact with the edges of the boot. Also feels beefier for that thick duckbill.
