In skiing, "more control equals more fun. the better you get, the more fun it is" Keep practicing out there you young guys, it just keeps getting better.
Depends who, or what, is in control. When the high tech gear is enabling more _apparent_ control by the user it certainly is providing less freedom and, I would argue, actually less user-control because the user is then dependent upon that tech. That is, to me personally, less fun. I have a blast working on my skills with Nansens and soft leather boots. My personal control will be enhanced with practice and lack of dependence upon the system enabling my belief in control. I really need to try this surfing without bindings at all!

People that ski naked and eat out of dumpsters aren't high on my list of those I want to associate with.
Why lump all such people together, and why wouldn't you want to associate with someone who does these things?

I was gonna say I killed this thread with off-topic genuine inquiry and thoughtful response, and get back to flaming.

Your ski-related Qs were good. Deserve-their-own-thread good. Love to see @lilcliffy or @Tom M share their views on what you asked.

In the meantime, @Stephen might post something to close this topic.

Remember that by definition, in pretty much everything in this world, "More control" is always the complete opposite of "More freedom".

Depends who, or what, is in control.
More outside control --> less personal freedom.
More self-control --> more personal freedom.
Freedom is often coupled with responsibility -- forego the latter at the former's expense.
Those seeking to control others that can not even control themselves...

Increased technology is outside control.

Lilcliffy has already said he sees no advantage to 3pin over nnnbc besides the cable. Tom has already said, I believe through videos of tests, he doesn't see even that to be the case. Edit: I may be wrong on this. I remember a video but maybe there was no cable involved.

Well, tempers and colors are flying, are they not? And such righteous and rabid rhetoric about "Truth"!
Johnny, you're certainly sounding like you're from Richford (local reference)! But seriously, you do live a bit further north, no?

Johnny, wondering what your advice to me might be.. But I was thinking I want to go backwards
[Thread KILL]

Who the eff said we had to move forward?!? Please post a link! 8-)

Move every direction you want, but keep moving!
Don't hang on to old, boring pre-conceived boomers ideas, to the concensus or to Scarpa T4s...

Go on! Grab all you can at garage sales and ski swaps! Try everything, ski everything! From rat traps to Skyhoys, from 412's to Spikes! From T1s to Birkenstocks! Experiment. Buy every single ski you see, whether its XC, alpine or nautical. Keep swapping bindings from one ski to another, keep experimenting with all the different gear you can find. The more, the better. You will discover amazing things by yourself, precious truths you won't find on the internetz.

And oh, don't judge someone's advice by his posts count or the background in his pictures. Try and see for yourself. That's where the fun is.
