Heel Locators

Post by bgregoire » Mon Jan 26, 2015 2:54 am

What ever happened to Heel locators for SCD? I've been reading Steve Barnett's XCD book and they are mentionned there. Seems like an interesting alternative to 3pc for those liking the free heel for kick n glide but also need ski control on the down.

Anyone with any experience with these? Anyone willing to get part with a used pair so that I may try them out? :)

That's funny...!
I totally forgot about the heel locators, but I just remembered that the very first time I read XCD, I was curious about it too... That was the first time I heard about those... I remember trying to Google it and look for info on other old telemark books, but couldn't find anything...

Please, write us a review BGreg!

Mid 70's. My first XC setup was a pair of Epoke 900' s w/ Troll 3pins and some floppy Norwegian boots. I was into bushwacking and exploring the snowies. You could literally wring those boots like a dishrag, the soles were so soft. Sidehilling, the heel would be off the ski. I got a pair of heel locators. FAIL. It's like putting a bandaid on a broken ankle.
The next year I upgraded to some green Fischers w/ Chouinard 3pins and Asolo leathers.
You gotta get the right equipment to do what you want to do. Or not.

HI,

I guess telebry still has some heel locators, but only for some specific bindings.

Regards

Here's a link at Alpenglow ..There's a film somewhere of SB and another skier who camp on Rainier and then ski down from the summit the following a.m. ..They have heel locaters on their flimsy gear..Would be interesting to see..it's a summer thing of course..
