NNN-BC and Cables?

Post by Spiny Norman » Sun Jan 28, 2024 6:01 pm

Mr Rainey are you still out there?

I had the ones designed to work with nnn bc bindings. I think I remember them working well on the downhill but being a cluster when touring. Constantly getting tangled.

Anyways, I want to use by nnn bc/Alpina Alaska BCs at the resort for fitness skinning but, for some odd reason, I cannot ski downhill in this setup as well as I did 25 years ago.

A few folks here have been very happy and impressed with the downhill improvement of adding cables to simple Three pins with letter boots.

I am tempted to Frankenstein some cables onto some older skis and give it a go.

Comments and warnings will be appreciated.

Cheers

There is also some interest in adding cables to Xplore. There would be pivot location questions, but a bigger question is how do you hook the cable to the boot? There is no shelf.
If you were going to the effort, I personally think Xplore would be the better platform.

I own this set up now and don't care enough to drop for a new kit. I have a dynafit kit but it turns out I don't like rigid boots for skinning. I just want to get down an easy blue without soiling myself.

I think I could make a heel lever work someway. Plenty of things to go wrong. Whats the line? "I didn't fail a thousand times I learned a thousand ways not to do X".

Do you think It would drastically improve the downhill?

There used to exist such a thing as a Rottefella NNN-BC with Cable, it was around for a few seasons in the 90's, as I recall. I haven't seen or heard of any around since then. It wasn't related to the Superloop at all, I think the cable action was integrated with the front throw of the BC's. I know I mounted a few pair back then, but not much for details. It was pretty much a flop.
