Advisability of drilling TxPros for alpine tech heels?
Advisability of drilling TxPros for alpine tech heels?
Let me start by acknowledging that the desire to lock one's heel down may be anathema to many here. I'm not trolling -- this is an honest question. I've been skiing tele for 25 years. I'm 52 now and there are some situations where I'd like to be able to use the Meidjo Alpine Heel https://www.the-m-equipment.com/en/prod ... in-heelset.
I have new TxPros that work well for me. These don't have the rear inserts required for the Alpine Heel. Changing to Crispi boots which do have this feature is not possible for me.
Have you ever heard of anyone drilling the TxPros to add the tech heel inserts? Are there reasons this is simply not feasible? If it's possible, do you know a ski technician who may be able to help me? I'm in California, but might be willing to ship my gear somewhere.

Are you able to get the fittings themselves from Crispi?
I would call up https://aspinockwoods.com/
I'd ask them if they have spare parts for the metal cover on the rear of the Crispi.
If so, I'd get them and drill them if you don't mind experimenting.
If it's the exact same part as used on the Dynafit, you could try that as well as a backup plan.
Why do you say getting Crispis is not possible? Is it that you are just determined to not go that route?
Sounds like a question for Dostie, of Dostie's View:

The physical act of hogging out some plastic and screwing on a tech insert is pretty easy. But lining it up perfectly is difficult. If it's off center, it'll put uneven pressure on your bindings' toe pins, causing premature wear and, possibly, premature release. If it's just for the occasional backcountry "oh sh*t!" situation, you might be fine as long as your mount is in the ballpark. But I'd be wary of skiing them regularly. Scouring the used sites for some of the older TX-Pros with factory heel inserts might be a better option.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I see how lining up the holes could be very difficult.
The main reason I say that the Crispis are not an option is that the fit is different and I hear the bellows flex is stiffer -- I just need to stay with a known-quantity boot now.
Looking for old TxPros that had the tech heel is the best option, but probably a long shot. (I need a mondo 28.5 or 29.)
Probably I give up the idea of using the Meidjo Alpine heel.
