Re: Wax/alpine ski suitable for pins at a ski area

I picked up those Wax Outtabounds last week on ebay-- where to mount? Forward or Back? 3cm mounting zone. I have my opinion, what are yours? Edit. Screw it, I just go for CC. The two skis are 1/4" apart, which is interesting. Same serial number. sounds cool, nothing like finding the new pair of ski...

Re: Wax/alpine ski suitable for pins at a ski area

I'd look for something slim & light - for me the Antarctic aren't solid enough to roll wider skis up on the edges in turns. They have firm ankle support but they twist fairly easily.

Re: Downgrading for Downhill

I emerged from the woods & marshes last year to go to a ski area in my XCD gear. The magical feeling of freedom and wilderness was gone! I felt like an Indian forced onto the reservation. Plus it was icy. I got bored on the lift. I like the idea of building leg strength on the uphills while touring,...

Great find! Made in Italy no doubt. Merrell was a great company. Nice wide last. Only Andrew is making boots like this today.

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

LC if you get 210 you'll be riding high, it will be like driving a tank over everything I would think. the Asnes website describes the nato as "A versatile backcountry ski for hunting and military use". If it's good enough for dragging your prey out of the woods, it must float well. your weight is n...

Re: Old S Bound series

OK, I won't throw it away! Maybe the reds are better on icy snow. On softer, new snow in the 30's it felt like I had skins on while going down hills. I think you keep it away from any kind of new snow. Wet snow, ice, etc….OK.

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

I'm even wondering where to mount my boot. I need to think on it some and do some more measurements on the wax pocket position. I think getting really good glide out of these will be challenging due to their soft nature. this is what happened to me - don't want to drill these beauties full of holes...
