Re: Skiing in Canada's Provincial Parks

Does anyone have any experience skiing (or hiking/biking, etc) in the Lake Superior Provincial Park or Aubinadong-Nushatogani Rivers Provincial Park or the Algoma area? There is an awful lot of wilderness out that way and some pretty big hills. Plus, it's east of Lake Superior where they get a ridic...

Re: Alpina Alaska NNNBC

Thanks LC! Great info right from the horse's mouth. Looks like I'll need to research this type of boot a bit further.

Re: Fat skis? Overrated... sometimes

Just have to be sure you're Raventele Ron before I ban you. How come you never posted on the forum from your home address? Seems odd doesn't it... especially considering there's been some trouble on here from your parts. So what's next? Threaten to stop posting and then keep posting? I think it's o...

Re: How about wooden skis?

Thanks for the info. I hope you continue to post on this subject in the future. I've been interested in making wood skis for a while now so it's great to hear from someone who's already gone down that road!

Re: Fat skis? Overrated... sometimes

Well, I really avoid most poling moves at all if possibly, conny, but what sort of inspired me to post that was last fall I saw this video of someone in Finland(??) skiing ultralite and he did so many both single and double-pole hop turns it was really tiring to just watch! But he was smooth and ef...

Re: Alpina Alaska NNNBC

I have not tried those boots but looked at them too. Do I remember correctly that you posted a review that compared the Alaskas to the Alpinas? I can't find it anywhere. Maybe I'm making it up...

Re: How about wooden skis?

Very interesting NEBC. The ash tops looks GREAT! I grew up XCing with my parents who were on old wooden skis. They would periodically apply pine tar to the bases to help waterproof them. Have you tried pine tar instead of base wax to keep the bases waterproof? Found this site a while ago for those i...

Re: Fat skis? Overrated... sometimes

balance is so critical skiing lite and balance is much easier skiing heavy. All things being equal, I agree. However, on 'bigger gear', a skier can increase the range of their terrain to include skiing steeper, rougher, deeper, tighter, higher-consequence lines than they might might on light gear. ...

Re: Alpina Alaska NNNBC

Thanks for the review! I've been eyeballing the NNN-BC version of those boots for a little while now. I wonder if they would be overkill for Rossi BC 65's/NNN-BC for kicking around the woods. What are your thoughts on those boots on skinnier skis? My current Rossi BCx2 boots are poorly constructed a...

Re: Fat skis? Overrated... sometimes

I do think anyone who learns to tele on pins and leathers will be much better plastic skiers. Because you have to have the perfect balance on leathers, your whole body has to be in the right position to turn efficiently. You can't rely on the boot's tongue for your lack of stability. And all of thi...
