I was always able to get enough ankle support to pressure my ski tips with lace up Merrils and Asolos. The slop in the system with leather boots comes from the boot binding connection and the rubber boot sole to leather upper connection IME.

You'll notice a lot more responsiveness / edge control with those boots... i.e. smaller movements to make the same turns. This is true, the tradeoff is that you may have to readjust your stance and or learn how to pressure the new boots while staying centered on your skis. Good luck with the new ge...

I was going to mention that this would be the year to fly up to the Ruth, with no or at least very few out of staters.. Were you climbing or just skiing? A spectacular place, post more pics.

It depends on conditions, in soft fresh snow you may get 50K out of your wax. I don't ski that far but my kick wax will sometimes last for multiple outings. I put my glide wax on pretty thin and it seems to wear out sooner, but I haven't hot waxed mine in which they say helps, and put it on thicker....
