Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
dropped about 12k of downhill on the 112's yesterday with my buddy, on a legit powder day at heavenly. it was fantastic. i went in and out of the woods and other black diamond terrain, i even dropped milky way bowl at one point-- it was really hard and i don't think i looked like the best skier but ...

Re: Review: Altai KOM 174cm
well, i did it-- 174 kom, 22d axls, scarpa t4. it is my first plastic boot telemark set up that i've owned (have demo'd stuff a few times). free pivot with plastic is a bit of a new feeling for me for touring/uphill. i've taken them out twice-- once for a back country lap at local waterhouse peak, a...

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
finally got to mess with my friend's FTX today-- it was great fun. definitely stiffer and faster than the 112's. though the edge hold seemed less bitey. could have been the soft spring corn though. i very much want to try a rabb 68 with xplore and my alfa free boots. but i just ordered Koms, which i...

Re: Adding more skis to my quiver
you've gotten some great advice already, i just want to add that i think the fischer s-bounds are totally superior to the madshus M's. those madshus skis are so insanely soft, they feel like rubber. although fisheater might be correct that the s-bounds aren't very rigid compared to some of the offer...

Re: Can't control speed! Snowplow doesn't plough...
What i am not sure of is instructing against leaning your upper body forward, when XC wedging. In a forward leaning position, could you activate also your buttock muscles more effectively? Maybe there is also a difference whether you wedge in an alpine or XC downhill context. In the latter, you are...

Re: Can't control speed! Snowplow doesn't plough...
So if you show us a photo or video of your wedge technique, I think we can give you more valuable feedback. I teach skiing at one of the local resorts, mostly to first timers, so nearly 100% of our focus is on the wedge ("snowplow") technique. The principles of a good wedge are the same in XC as in ...

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
Really been giving thought to putting power to the trailing leg on lighter gear. I’m understanding the intention and use of harder flexors to help achieve the desired down pressure…I guess maybe next year when I’m a 100% again I’ll give it a more serious effort. I’d be faking it if I tried right no...

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
why do skis need leashes/breaks, but not snowboards? i see runaway snow boards almost every day at my job. i mean i understand why a ski with DIN release would need breaks or a leash. but why an nnn-bc ski that is never coming off my foot unless i consciously open the binding and take the ski off my...

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
I finally messed with the red bumper yesterday, it was delightful! i was able to do entire blue runs using t-turns. but man does it kill the kick and glide, traverses/catwalks were slooooow. my ski buddy fashioned a leash for his nnn-bc set up, personally i am riding without a leash. my reasoning is...
