Re: Boot recommendations for TTS-setup (Moonlight Pure tele)

FWIW I have both the F3 and (old) T2X. As far as I can tell the boots are pretty well identical apart from a few things: 1. The toes and binding fittings 2. The liners are very different with overlap liners in the old T2X and tongue liners in the F3. The latter fit (me) better with more toe room (sa...

Re: the Nordic Ice Skating Thread

Here's a few different photos for you all - attempting to wing-skate using Ermine skates and an inflatible foil. It was a blast although I'd strongly recommend a full face helmet because when you do go down it happens fast  Wow!!! Have you thought about a trans-Antarctic trip? Maybe nobody has...

Re: Madshus Panorama Explorer Boots

So, I've tried these on but not skied them. For non-skiing I usually wear Salomon footwear, as they fit my fairly average width forefoot and narrow heel well. Many other brands are sloppy/too wide at the heel, but Madshus are not, and I was impressed by the fit. The external heel cuff is similar to ...

Re: S-bound 98 and Nansen vs. Rabb 68

Leather boots + firm or icy snow = fail. There's not enough lateral or torsional stiffness to edge the ski, and even on something like an E99 one gets sore feet fast. With an SB98 there's no hope due to the width, and SB98s IME aren't torsionally stiff enough in very firm conditions even if one uses...

Re: T4's or Alpha Free

Disclaimer: I haven't skied Xplore yet, but hope to this Southern winter. I have tried on and played with the Madshus boots though, and was surprised how supportive they were given the minimal appearing cuff. T4s don't fit me especially well, and caused horrendous blisters on the last long tour, whi...

Re: Xplore - now SkateX

Looks like a great idea, but I have all Salomon Profil so it'd mean new everything. That boot sole looks slippery too, maybe not a big deal elsewhere but here in Australia we typically have to walk across paved/icy car parks. Madshus boots fit me okay and their top boots are super light (and super e...

Haven't looked at the book for a long time but never understood what "open turns" were, or spoken with anyone who did. Totally perplexing IMHO...

Re: Skis for firm-ish conditions edgeable with Madshus Xplore boots?

@satanas i think we have almost covered what’s available in a waxless base, excluding what may be available from OAC. I am not sure about OAC offerings. You didn’t care for the Madshus skis, but liked the Fisher skis. That’s fair enough. You like the the Voile Vectors. Are plastic boots really the ...

Re: Skis for firm-ish conditions edgeable with Madshus Xplore boots?

How about even further south, Tasmania? Pretty hard to drive there, so access is expensive! The big problem though is the low altitude and thus very unreliable snow. If you lived in say Hobart and could leave immediately after a snowfall it would be potentially doable, but from elsewhere it's not c...

Re: Skis for firm-ish conditions edgeable with Madshus Xplore boots?

Mostly in the NSW Snowy Mountains, occasionally in Victoria - it's a longer drive to get there from Sydney (~1000km) and there's usually more snow "locally" (~500km).
