I've always been tempted too. They are a little softer, so going long isn't a big issue, IIRC. The disparity in pattern is the gamble, you might get one ski with little pattern and another ski with an aggressive pattern. C'mon high roller- roll those dice and let us know!

The pattern is variable because it is hand made as we can see in the picture. It is not factory made

I think they are actually factory seconds, possibly prototyping waxless patterns or tweaking machines. There are a lot of them, I don't think some single guy would buy a dozen Sondre's and hack them up.

Well.... I meant to say that this was most likely not made in the official Åsnes factory...

Hey so I emailed the seller to ask what the story is, and this is what they replied:
Hello [MUSK OX],
The bases are not hand-cut, they are machine-cut. In the manufacturing process, the bottoms were not cut uniformly, as shown in the pictures.
On a 200cm ski, the non-waxable pattern is about 90cm in the middle of the ski (the “kick zone”).
The skis are skiable. The non-waxable pattern allows you to push forward, so if the pattern is not adequate, you would need to use a kick wax, as we described in our listing.

I'm thinking of getting some myself now, having them sent to my brother in the States. Hm...
Are these skis good? I read the asnes site and also checked prices...they are $225-250 new. any reviews? stiff/soft? k&g performance on flat terrain?
I am looking for something that does better in variable snow on flattish terrain than average double cambered skinny xc skis but not so downhill focused like the Vector, ft62, S112, rabb68 etc.

No one else is picking this up so I'll say the little I know about them.
I’m sure they’re good. I know they’re a classic hiking/ touring workhorse: you see millions for sale on the local eBay equivalent. 'Softer than the Amundsen', apparently, says the website. They’re clearly not-unturny, given that you see them sold second hand with both NNN and telemark bindings. And given that Sondre invented telemark skiing.
these have been around on eBay for years - looks like only the 190cm is left. I wish I ordered a pair when he had the 200-210's, the price was lower back then too. Asnes must have dumped a run of them into surplus at some point.
