WTB - First Tele Ski

Hello all,

New to the forum (and to telemarking), and I’m looking for a solid set of skis and skins to get me started telemarking without a huge initial investment. I have a background cross country skiing and snowboarding but haven’t alpine ski’d before. Live in Central Oregon and will be skiing Mt. Bachelor and surrounding backcountry areas, so something that can handle both on/off piste would be ideal. I’m 6’0, 150lbs. Boot size is 28-28.5 (may need boots as well). Let me know if anyone has anything lying around.

Keep an eye out for a ski that's about mid-90's in the waist and about 180cm give or take either direction depending on your preferences. Rocker up front is good too. It'll be a good place to start until you get on your feet.

Wooderson pointed me to Evo.com for good ski sales - here are some of his suggested filters applied: https://www.evo.com/shop/sale/ski/skis/ ... o-bindings

Here is the 95mm waisted version of the 85 (which Wooderson reviewed here on the board): https://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/atomic-vantage-95-c. Not sure how much they'd differ from the skinnier 85 version, maybe others here can chime in?

I haven't skied the Vantage 95C but I owned a pair for a few months, then sold them to a local ski patroller as a second pair to his first, he absolutely loves them. Round medium flex, some rocker up front, standard sidecut, pretty straightforward ski.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I was able to pick up a pair of 174cm G3 Tickets with G3 Targa bindings on Craigslist for $100. Took them up to the mountain yesterday and had a blast. Taught myself parallel turns and started dropping the knee a bit towards the end of the day as I got more comfortable. Excited to keep learning. Thanks again for the input, I’ll probably look to purchase a new setup next season and this advice will help aid that decision.
