Garmont vs Scarpa sizing

Post by hoodoo65 » Mon Feb 09, 2015 6:57 pm

Garmont's chart is a confusing.

Need an NTN boot for a kid (US men's 5). My actual options: Scarpa TX, Garmont Pirestess.

Scarpa's chart says 23. Garmont ????

Should I get a size larger and get another smaller liner ? Kids grow-up fast...

Any input on this ?

Yeah there's a lot of difference between manufacturers... And not much you can do if you don't get to try them before you buy...

Try to get the closest you can to your kids size... Then bake the liners... You can gain/lose one mondo point by doing so... Then use foam pads and shims to fine tune...

(It takes about 3-4 beers worth of time to fully fit a boot to one's feet... ; )

Biggest difference between the two is that Scarpa shells breaks on half sizes (26.5 and 27 are the same shell) and Garmont full sizes (27 and 27.5 are the same). So if buying used think of these as the same size. You WILL need to mold the liners.

Measure his foot with a ruler following this guide: http://www.telemarkski.com/html/how_tele_size_boot.html

Short version is that the mondo size he needs should be a little longer than his measured foot size in cm.
