Looking at the photos during my mid-afternoon coffee break...
https://www.asnes.com/produkt/ingstad-fjellski/

Either the new Ingstad has an extremely low camber- or, that looks like "Nordic rocker" to me...

I believe the picture shows them compressed base-to-base.

What we need to know is whether Mr. Asnes was pressing (or not) the skis against each other in the picture below... Either way, that seems to be a lot more than Fischer's nordic rocker to me... It seems to start at like... 25-30cm? Something we have never seen in a XC ski before.. It also seems to be more than on HBS video...?

It is certainly more (rocker) than any of the Fischer skis.

Just heard back from Asnes... Here's the complete info. And a few words about the new X-Skin system, redesigned from last year's SkinLock: "They will have much less friction compared to the previous models, especially on hard conditions.". It's also cool to note that they will now distribute Pomoca and Colltex skin wax, adhesive, and accessories.

Ingstad BC
Wide and playful backcountry model

Versatile BC ski intended for long traverses in step and demanding terrain. Ingstad is equipped with a moderate wax pocket and a Nordic rocker/taper. This makes Ingstad easy to handle in deep snow and demanding terrain. Ingstad is produced in a light weight wood core and the total weight is only 2.050g (200cm).

Ingstad has a insert for X-skin installation. A unique solution for installation of climbing skins in the center of the ski. We recommend a 58mm X-skin for this model in Mohair or Nylon.

Helge Ingstad was known as Trapper, Polar Hero, Scientist, and as Governor of Greenland and Svalbard. He released several best sellers about wildlife capturing in Canada, Greenland and Svalbard. Through this work he contributed to the creation to the heroic representations of the hunters’ adventures life. Ingstad was also an administrator and a polar researcher with particular interest in the northern areas’ history and ethnography. He researched the cultural circumstances to people in the poles and gained new knowledge about the Norse settlements in America.

Tonje BC
All-round model for adventurous girls

This is the ski for adventurous girls. Perfect ski for deep and demanding snow, but also a playful ski for steep descents. This model has a moderate Rocker and taper. This makes the ski easy to handle in loose conditions. Tonje BC has a side cut of 22mm.

Tonje is equipped with insert for X-skin installation. A unique solution for installation of climbing skins in the centre of the ski. We recommend a 58mm X-skin for this model in Mohair or Nylon.

Tonje Blomseth is for many completely unknown, but this girl from Trøndelag in Norway has since she was 17 years, gain a significant role within Norwegian adventures. Tonje went from the south to the North of Norway already when she was 17 years old, and was then the youngest ever to do this by foot/ski. Today she lives as a trapper in the deep forests of Canada where she is using her new skis daily. We look forward to follow Tonje on new adventures in the future.

X-Skin 30mm Mohair
100% Mohair for reduced friction and increased speed

X-Skin 30mm is produced in mohair materials from Colltex in Switzerland. X-skin can be used on all Åsnes skis with a skin insert. The climbing skin is made of 100% Mohair for optimal speed and grip. For improved performance, we recommend impregnating the skins with wax or skin impregnation, which will provide better glide and reduced friction.

Short climbing skin from Åsnes are delivered in a practical bag customized for X-skin, which can be attached to your backpack or belt. The bag has perforated fabric on the bottom, which ensures that the skin dries and the water flows out of the bag.

Åsnes short skin is equipped with a skin-protector in front to avoid ice/snow filling the skin and to secure the skin on long distances.

Do we know if the X-Skin is compatible with the previous skin-lock system and vice-versa?

Pretty sure it is... Because all the last year's skis are still there, but the skins are not... They would not remake all their skis just to change the skin attachment... ;)

Just out of curiosity, what is the Asnes-yearly-buying-limit per household in your area?
You could always ask a friend to buy a pair for you to be legit...

interesting....hopefully less friction this way?? Or are they just trying to make it harder to replace the skin yourself???

I think the Skinlocks were very cool. I never found friction to be problematic at all... But if it's even better... 8-)

Norseman in Calgary just confirmed that they will have the new Asnes skis available in Canada soon... They are waiting for their order so I guess LaCordee and Neptune will have them as well...

My 2016 E99 Tours have that much "Nordic rocker". My 2016 E-109s have a little less.

Rockered tips certainly improve turn initiation and shorten the turn radius on both of these skis- VERY noticeable, especially when compared to a ski like the non-rockered last gen Ingstad/Combat Nato.

I am not at all convinced yet that tip rocker produces effective backcountry XC performance on skis this narrow at the waist...

Where things break down is in deep, soft snow.

All of these skis are so narrow that the entire length of the ski needs to support your weight in order for them to be stable in deep, soft snow.

The Nordic-rockered tips on the E99/E109 are VERY soft and feel almost disconnected from their stiff double camber underfoot. This effect is particularly a handicap with the E109 when XC skiing in deep, soft snow. The E109 is so narrow at the waist- compared to its soft, rockered tip- that the tip rises, as the waist and tail sink into the abyss. In short- it just doesn't work on the E109. After all the E109 is a XC ski. The E99 actually performs better when XC skiing in deep soft snow- due to having less sidecut, the E99 is more stable.

The previous gen Ingstad/Combat Nato outperforms both the E109/E99 when XC skiing in deep soft snow- WITHOUT any tip rocker...BUT- the previous gen Ingstad also has more of a fully-integrated flex pattern than the E99/E109...

I have no doubt that the new Ingstad will be easier to turn than the previous.

But- how will it perform as a XC ski in deep backcountry snow?
