Re: Share your Pre Season, work out routines

I am using V-2 XL9848 skis (metal axles), which I started using 8 years ago when I weighed about 225 lbs. (now about 190 :) ). These are two-wheel skis that simulate classic skiing (the front wheels only roll forwards), and the solid wheels are fairly wide. The one (or two) repairs they have needed ...

Re: Excursion 88 Sizing and Bindings.

I have tried the E88's and they are a reasonable choice for touring, and comparable in speed to my narrower Alpina Discovery 68's. Certainly NNN-BC bindings are adequate (and best) for touring, I don't do much downhill so I can't comment on the other binding choices. The Alpina Alaskas are more than...

Re: Share your Pre Season, work out routines

I am 69 years old, and primarily do off-track xc skiing (not downhill), and some track skiing and Alpine downhill. I spent about 1 1/2 years getting stronger using weights and weight machines, both for skiing and my seasonal work discussed below. Then COVID hit, so the YMCA had no access, then limit...

Re: Older Alpina Discovery Ski size chart

I got a look at my skis and they have a similar waxless pattern. I am guessing, from when I bought them and the not quite linked 2012 sizing chart, that they are 2011's. Yours may be from the same year. These are not skis bought for speed, and at a body weight of 154 lb, I would say that 190 cm skis...

Re: Older Alpina Discovery Ski size chart

My skis are Discovery 68's which I bought in 2012 and I believe were a current model. These are compact/short length (in my case, for a short/compact skier!) skis. That year, the sizes were 170, 180 and 190 cm. I was well over 200 lb. and could use the 190 cm. length. I believe the correct length fo...

Re: Biological Annihilation

There is no general acceptance that removal of the Snake River dams will significantly help salmon populations.

I sail on the Snake immediately upstream of the last dam (Ice Harbor).

Re: Telemark turns on Rossignol BC X6 boots?

I have these boots. They are great for what I do, but I don't do telemark turns and few other turns. Skis are Alpina Discovery 68's, somewhat narrower than what you have.

Re: Total newb, looking for advice.

Two things I disagree with here : a) Some older models of Fischer E-99 (crown) did not climb well. I also did not like the older MG pattern on Madshus waxless skis. I don't know about more recent models. b) I would recommend a NNN-BC Manual over the Auto (I own the latter); but my experience with th...

Re: Alfa vs. Alpina sizing

I wear a 10 1/2 shoe. Alpina's tend to be large. In the Alpina BC1550, the size 44 is the closest fit, but caused blisters on my large toe. The size 45 is too large. In both Rossignol and Salomon boots, a size 45 fits perfectly.

Re: When do people find time to ski??

I previously lived in Louisiana, got in 1 trip of skiing per year, usually 6 days of skiing When I was teaching, it was sometimes a little longer. Since retiring, I live in a town at 1000 ft. elevation in WA state, surrounded on 2 sides by 5500 ft. mountains. It's about a 1 hour drive each way for d...
