Re: Nordic Backcountry / Telemark Boot Size Conversion Charts Depository

Here is Alpina's official size table, copied from the Alaska page on their site (http://www.alpinasports.com/product/alaska/224): ALPINA SIZE.png alpina size.pdf They don't sell any of the 1/2 sizes of course. I wear a 10 1/2 shoe, or sometimes 11. Alpina or Rossi fits me with a 44, Salomon with a ...

Re: is it time?

XC skiing today in the Blue Mountains on 6-10 inches of ungroomed but tracked powder. It was raining 15 minutes after I left the parking lot to come home. However, more snow is coming later in the week. 49 North is open, Mt. Spokane is opening Saturday, and I expect White Pass (Cascades) is opening ...

Re: Ski for heavyweights

Thanks for the responses. The USGI skis will make sense if he is willing to wax. They may also make sense for me as a trailbreaking ski (at 200 cm) with the same requirement.

Ski for heavyweights

Here is the reverse of the problem below. I have become acquainted with a person that moved here from Alabama, and he thinks he is interested in learning to ski. He is 6'2" and 315 lbs. Is there any appropriate ski for this weight? Otherwise, if and when he gets around to purchasing skis, I would su...

These sound a lot like the Alpina Control Edge skis, which are a light duty backcountry/touring ski. 155 cm seems to be the right length. Not inexpensive, thought.

Re: Another "help me gear up" thread

I haven't tried either of the skis you mentioned, but I have tried using the Fischer Excursion 88, which has about the same waist width as the 98, in breaking trail in 10 inch powder. It is not easy, and I didn't find it easier than on my usual skis (Alpina Discovery 68's/ 190 --60 waist width). I w...

Re: Another "help me gear up" thread

Looking at the REI website, I don't see any restriction on shipping Fischer or Alpina boots to Canada (there is on Madshus boots). Have your tried? I think that the Fischer boots come in 48's, I don't know if that is big enough for you.

Re: is it time?

maybe an inch in the Blue Mountains (NE Oregon/SE Washington). More coming tonight, then melting again. Last year I was (XC) skiing by this time, but that is unusual.

I heard that Great Divide Ski Area (near Helena, MT) is opening next weekend.

Re: Alpina BC 1550

Yup, toe pinch for me. Others might say I have weird feet but anyways, there you have it. Enjoy them while you can! PS: if your only planning short hikes, it might not even become an issue. I have owned a pair for about 6 years and have the same issue. I wouldn't consider my feet to be weird. I may...
