Re: The narrowest class of XCD Skis

For a long time, my only ski, primarily used for track skiing, was the Madshus Northcape (ancestor to Voss). These were orginally mounted with SNS-Profil bindings, which may have been a mistake. They had some off-track capability, but the stability was less than I liked for this purpose, partially d...

Re: Making Gear. Cross purposing Gear. Modding.

Rokjox: There was an article in Cross Country Skier magazine a number of years ago which was a tour of a ski factory. I can't find this article in my personal archives or on-line. My memory of the article is that the ski manufacturer, in this case at least, produced their own base material to attach...

Re: Last day... Sniff.

It closes in 2 weeks, although it will have snow for a while. 48 degrees this morning.

My local resort (Bluewood), still has lots of snow, closed last weekend. This area get much warmer than the Cascades.

Re: Making Gear. Cross purposing Gear. Modding.

P-tex is polyethylene and is difficult to glue with anything as little will stick to it. I believe it is applied with pressure when hot and somewhat soft, and allowed to freeze or fuse (technical terms) in place. I think your best bet to attach P-tex to a ski bottom are screws which are countersunk ...

Re: Jumbo Wild: Watch it!

interesting! Unless something is different in Canada the total number of skiers is staying the same or shrinking every years. Breaking new ground doesn't seem to make sense. We have a similar project in New England with Les Otten's massive Bretton Woods proposal. Seems like insanity given that Sadd...

Re: Year in review: What did you learn?

Ski season is not done here, I am going to ski the next 3 days at Anthony Lakes (about 2 1/2 hours away at 7100 ft). There has been a lot of snow in the mountains the last two weeks, and a lot of rain at lower elevations. I have learned the closest options are not the best and get boring after a whi...

Other here is sailing, at least in the past. I will probably spend more time roller skiing, I don't currently have a boat.

Re: How to stay motivated at work

Salespeople get to be heroes by making big sales. Corporations typically forget about money they wasted. When profits aren't good, it's the R&D people that are let go first.

I always found my motivation was in learning new things and understanding things better, even if not appreciated by others.

Re: New bindings or new skis?

If you are going to be doing all off-track skiing, I would buy NNN-BC. Skis with full or partial metal edges give you more control on icy trails. If you are skiing in PA/NY/NJ/WV/MD mountains I think they would be helpful. Maybe not in Western NY/NW PA. The only time the lighter boots will help is w...

Re: With whom do you ski?

I mostly ski solo, but enjoy skiing with others (including my 33 yo daughter and sometimes her SO), no local partner yet.
My wife is an indoor person.
