Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

Intersting input. And still no real alternatives to the Objectives. I can't see going to a UV ; seems like from what I have to Ojectives is already a sizable change, going further would probably be too much. I'd be more likely to stop short of the Objectives If I saw something that was close but not...

Re: The Saw-Sal-Way.

@mikesee -great looking trip - can you say a little more about the choices of 3-pins/Koms versus AT/Objectives, since you did parts of the trip on each? and about the boots you used for each setup? Thanks!

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

Me: 5-10, about 150 lbs my pack - for a week, about 30-35 lbs at the start, and lighter every day (thank god). Typical day (if there is such a thing) - probably about 8-10 miles, and between 1000 and 2000 vertical up and same down. If I was going to go back to places I've been, I'd really have littl...

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

Well, I do get some kick and glide, but only if it is really flat - which is pretty much only when crossing a frozen lake - or just slightly downhill of course. Which tells me that my Rainers are pretty much optimized, lengthwise, for me and what I do. And the Excursions are close to ideal. All the ...

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

So that's my ski buddy in that photo. That was approaching the top of a climb that started steeper and got gentle at the top. But scales all the way is what I am after, not waxable. Almost never deep fresh snow. Mostly it's lovely corn. Early mornings, if I must, it can be crusty corn, but I almost ...

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

And as to lenghts, I like to go short. Flotation is almost never an issue in the condtions i usually see, so
I'd rather err on the side of manueverability and traction.

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

Those 88's are probably pretty much like my Rainiers. Same dimensions anyway. I expect they are somewhat different, but probably effectively thr curent version.
@lowangle al - sounds like yoou have experience with both Objectives and Koms. Can you say more about why you'd choose the Koms?

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

I had the impression that the Koms were much heavier than the Objectives.

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

Unfortunately, Objectives sound more and more like the answer. I say unfortunately because $700 sounds like a lot for a pair of skis and findung any used 164`s seems like impossible. So, anybody have any suggestion as the closest thing to Objectives? Waxless only.

Re: Paging Tom M. With a question

Tom - yes, I have full skins for the steeper stuff. here's a link to some photos that will give a you a better idea of some places I've been. My take is the rainiers are about a camber and a half ski. I do get some kick and glide under ideal conditions,, even with the pack, but mostly when I'm carry...
