Re: Ski base cleaner formula

You can also use a heat gun/hair dryer to warm the bases, then wipe with a paper towel - a lot of wax will come off that way with less need to use chemicals. I normally only give mine a full deep clean at the end of the season before I put them away for the summer.

Re: Skiing with Orthotics

Medical orthotics can be a lot more rigid than sports ones, because they are designed to really limit the movement of the foot. Something that flexes a bit more will still give some arch support, but will be more comfortable when you're rolling the foot forward when skiing. Your ones also sound like...

Re: Skiing with Orthotics

Hey Landscraper, my job is fitting ski boots so I make a lot of orthotics and also use them myself both for skiing and everyday use :geek: What type do you have? Are they plastic, carbon fibre or some kind of foam? Full length or 3/4? If you compare the standard Fischer insoles to them, what are the...

Re: Accidentally bought Fischer e99 waxing version. First time to wax. Should I keep them?

Hi Ollie, I'm a Brit living in Oslo so hopefully can offer some advice! Those skis will be perfect for the Hardangerviddda, which is mostly flat, rolling terrain - however the easy skin version might be better for pulling a pulk. The weather in April can vary massively in terms of temperature, so a ...

Re: the Nordic Ice Skating Thread

I'm just using the standard black flexors as well, haven't felt a need for the stiffer ones! Using Alfa Skarvet on Lundhags T-skates, they come pre-drilled for different bindings.

That sounds incredible! I'd love to do a long tour like that sometime.
Yeah, it was great! Unfortunately those kind of conditions are a bit of a rarity here, more common in Sweden and Finland. Here we tend to get a few weeks of cold weather, then there is too much snow on the lakes for skating.

Re: It Ain't Ice Unless You Can See Fish

Ice skating is awesome. Anyone here do Nordic blading/ice skating? With the long, flat skates that use an NNN binding on top? I got myself a pair two winters ago but never really had a chance to get out on them except on the local hockey pond with my friends. Hopefully this year is the year I do so...

Re: Mountain Race 46 - the red one

Regarding the sizing charts, I think it's more important to go off weight rather than height, also make sure the weight you're going off is you, in all your ski gear (boots too), with your backpack on. I've made the mistake of going shorter and regretted it. Turning a longer ski takes a little bit m...

Re: What do you carry in day packs? Backcountry XCd

I'd agree about the beacon and probe, but a shovel can be very handy in an emergency situation. A snow hole or quinzee will be much warmer than using a tarp or survival bag on its own. I don't carry one for local day trips where the trails tend to be busy, but in the mountains or more remote forest ...

Re: Leather tear on Alpina Alaska stitch

I wouldn't worry about the waterproofing as far as your foot is concerned - the waterproof membrane inside the boots will be under the leather and foam padding, closer to the inside. The rip is also high up and on the back, so the chance of water/wet snow getting in is lessened, especially if you us...
