Re: A new take on an old time favorite...

I have been thinking for a while that a 3 pin cable would do everything a HW binding would do for less weight and money. I'm just reluctant to put a binding with a 3 hole pattern on an expensive ski and risk ripping it out. Maybe this new binding with the riser is a four hole pattern. I use both th...

Altai Kom skis

Does anyone have any experience or information about the Altai Kom Skis? Slightly rockered tip, tapered tails, scales, 124/98/119, 2.85 kg. Currently, they are only made in 162 length but I read somewhere (not sure where) that next season's version will come in 3 lengths. They are being made somewhe...

Re: Most lightweight telemark boots 75mm

Scott (Garmont) Excursion 75 mm boots are 1400g. I believe they can be made lighter by replacing the stock liner with a better (Intuition) liner. Voile Switchback bindings (75mm) are 1360g.

Re: Fitting Leather Ski Boots

Have you tried messing with different footbeds? That is a good way to take up extra volume in a boot without sacrificing toe space: thinner footbed for when you want to wear more socks and thicker when you don't. Those Alico doubles are great boots. The liner is pretty warm and my ski buddy who uses...

Re: Skiing in Canada's Provincial Parks

I understand - I could be a crazy for all you know! I was just wondering what general area - what state? I'm not asking for your home address here ;) Just was curious where you are skiing. Plus Ron will surely take me out first - so just keep an eye out in the obituaries for a Michael Knauf of Roch...

Re: Skiing in Canada's Provincial Parks

Not too near there, but really, who is? Not from VT. I'm from NH, but moved away. I've just always been fascinated with all that empty wilderness to the east of lake superior. It's like there's no one there but there's pretty good sized hills and lots of snow! Anyone with info? Where are you now if...

Re: Skiing in Canada's Provincial Parks

Does anyone have any experience skiing (or hiking/biking, etc) in the Lake Superior Provincial Park or Aubinadong-Nushatogani Rivers Provincial Park or the Algoma area? There is an awful lot of wilderness out that way and some pretty big hills. Plus, it's east of Lake Superior where they get a ridi...

Re: Fat skis? Overrated... sometimes

I have heard a few times that fat backcountry touring skis are 'the new trend' and I am wondering why this is. I am a newbie so someone explain. I may not understand what you are asking, but 'fat backcountry touring skis' have been around for quite a while (a decade or more) and in many different f...

Re: Alpina Alaska NNNBC

Thanks LC! Great info right from the horse's mouth. Looks like I'll need to research this type of boot a bit further.
