Re: School lunch comparison
100 years ago, the average American family spent 43% of their income on food. Today, it's less than 13% (http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/04/how-america-spends-money-100-years-in-the-life-of-the-family-budget/255475/) For whatever reason, we (in the US) want our food to be cheap and ...

Re: School lunch comparison
It sounds like your wife is doing some good work. I agree with you about the ignorance. It's just ironic that lower-income folks used to cook like I described above out of necessity and not very long ago! Eating out was a treat, but is now perceived as being the least expensive option in some cases....

Re: The no kill diet?
I guess we both have a little time on our hands today, MikeK! I was also very thankful and careful not to waste them when I cooked them and ate them. I think this is the best way to 'respect' the food you eat. Don't waste it, prepare it well, and have an understanding of where it came from. What abo...

Re: School lunch comparison
A couple of points: I believe you when you say " The big thing she said for school lunches was cost - they go with the lowest cost supplier who sources the lowest cost foods." That makes sense except many of the countries mentioned in that article don't have quite the wealth we do in the US yet they...

School lunch comparison
Why are kids in the US fat? Maybe one reason is we feed them garbage at school: http://www.fastcoexist.com/3042318/take-a-tour-of-mouth-watering-school-lunches-from-around-the-world-and-the-embarrassing-us-e WTF? How embarrassing. We wonder why more than half of the population in the US is obese and...

Re: A new take on an old time favorite...
Oh I think I get it Connyro... You're only trying to get me banned out of here...!! 8-) LOL. If we can't agree, someone must go! Seriously, the XCD Knights are very strict. It has been discussed in detail in other threads in the last 50 years, but why exactly one would call 2-buckle plastic T4s and...

Re: A new take on an old time favorite...
I hear you MikeK. Have you XCD'd with light plastic boots before? In my experience, my ankle is not locked in a block of plastic. T4s and Excursions (2-buckle) are a soft plastic that most certainly flex when forced. XC skate boots 'lock' your ankle laterally too but they are still considered XC boo...

Re: A new take on an old time favorite...
Oh dear connyro... you have not heard of the ways of the Knights Templar of XCD... these laws are not easily overturned. I'm not even sure who makes them. But one must abide, or suffer the consequences... Hahaha.I figured this place woefully lacks in strife and argument, so I thought I'd poke anoth...

Re: A new take on an old time favorite...
Nah, it tells something terribly sad about the development of XCD... We previously discussed the matter here ... It's just a standard Voile 3pc bundled with risers and climbing wires. Selling for more than what you would pay buying the items separately. It doesn't make any sense to me. I thought it...
