Re: Looking for BC XCd Ski Recommendations

Big Guy Perspective: Don't stress about the ski width too much. Cyldesdale class trailbreaking is going to be work no matter what you ski. I regularly go out on ungroomed trails with anything from 125mm at the tip monsters to <70mm sized skis that can fit in the tracks. Neither is particularly bette...

Re: and now....the rain

It's treated canvas, although very breathable. I've had the opportunity to stay in hot tents from a couple of different sources- this one beats them all for lightweight backcountry travel. Snowtrekker has it figured out. https://www.snowtrekkertents.com/ Several friends have tried cheaper approaches...

Southern Utah Meadowskipping?

Work is paying to send me to Las Vegas in late March next year. I have kinfolk in St. George I'd like to visit. Anything fun to ski that's day-trippable from either location? Cruised through the southern edge of the Cedar Breaks a few years ago and that looked like it had potential. Looking for some...

Re: and now....the rain

The stove pipe sticks out of the side close to vertical, so you get a lot of float as things move around. https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8090/8585146439_0489ce0846_z.jpg How to know if you spend too much time at the porkies: When the former manager of the porkies takes a job at your local nordic trai...

Re: and now....the rain

Ha. I remember that winter. I camped in the porkies one weekend and had to keep the stove just cranking. This resulted in it melting itself straight toward the ground as fast as it could. This was when I set it up. It dug itself down at least another foot over the course of a couple nights. I was re...

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

12"+ in Huron Mtns/CR510 currently. Not much, but low-angle stuff is starting to be OK and touring is good. There's a thin base with about a foot of some real fluffy lake-effect on top. We need some system snow to fill in the base and get this season started! Good to hear you guys are catching up! ...

Re: What would you add to the ski rack if money didn't matter?

Thankfully, money isn't what limits my quiver- it's time to enjoy it. I find it difficult to ski more than two skis at a time. But that said, I could really use a personal assistant to acquire and maintain a vintage wooden ski set up for me. It always seems like fun, but I just don't have the time t...

Re: Ski Movies

So this is one of my favorites. Kind of highlights how we have to make the best of maybe a couple hundred feet in elevation change.

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

If John Dee (http://johndee.com/forecasts/forecast-graphic/) comes through, we should be off to a good start this weekend. nearly everything should be XCable and the snowbelts will be ready for moderate turns. If you make it up here anywhere from marquette west, give me a shout, I'll be out skiing s...

The UP Conditions Report Thread

Managed to float something other than rolled trails last weekend. $INSERT_SNOW_DEPTH_JOKE https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4727/38180009225_8d87a5bdd0_c.jpg A little thin for turns in the trees. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4527/39061574151_2a8e63341b_z.jpg But nothing a nice glove drying fire can't r...
