Re: Losing Popularity?
Everyone here is either nordic, [or] AT Also my feeling for where I live as well. Been that way for a while. Nordic backcountry as I think of it appears non-existent here - really polarized into two styles. We have amazing mountains to tour and a world class nordic centre so it makes sense. We also...

Re: Looking for advice on length - Eager beginner
I sure was eyeing those Amundsen in Cochrane too! I have the older version Asnes Rago (no skinlock). Thanks for taking away that temptation. I really like the Rago, which is probably pretty similar to Amundsen. 200 cm is sure to have a fair bit of camber. They should be great skis for touring. I als...

Re: Looking for advice on equipment trying to figure this out
I bet you'd be happy on a set of Asnes Combat NATO, NNN BC or 75 mm and Alpina Alaska if stability and deeper untracked snow are prime considerations. I have that set up (in NNN BC) and it's super for basic touring. High quality gear that might remind you of the skis you used in Norway, but lighter ...

Re: Kick Skins over Kick Wax
Good info in this thread. Thanks.
Where I live blue IS a warm weather wax! I had only used kicker skins over special green or polar, with no issues. I have been too nervous about using them with extra blue, but will try.

Re: the Nordic Skating Thread
Hi Tom Have you tried them with the standard black flexor as well? Big difference? Hello Gareth. Sorry I didn't even try the black ones. I read somewhere that red was best and had some here so put them on from the get-go and didn't think about it since. I imagine any difference is slight? Have fun....

Re: the Nordic Skating Thread
Gareth, I have Lundhag t-skates with magnum nnn bc (what I had lying around) and use the red flexor with Alpina Alaska. Works for me. Tom

Re: lacing up the Alaskas
I've seen Innus (first nation in Quebec) going for a salmon fishing trip with almost no gear, dressed in chemise carottée (wool shirt) and regular rubber boots. Their bag was made out of jute... That gave me a lesson, in a way... Indeed. Great to hear! Quite off topic, but I was fortunate to spend ...

Re: lacing up the Alaskas
I love simplicity, and the different eyelets on the Alaska are a bit bewildering.
That said, I'm not sure what others issues are here. I simply tie mine up and go skiing. I don't give it any thought. Four or five seasons on the same pair and no issues. YMMV.

Re: Skiing after Dark?
Its amazing. Some initial thoughts: a) Safety first. Bring a pack with emergency gear and clothing. You don't need much, but carry some essentials including means to start a fire, something to bivy in, and a GPS and cell phone (if in range). Let someone know where you are going and when you will be ...

Re: Please help newbie decide on skis??
Depends on the ski. In general I don't think so at all. Though with those more narrower skis (e.g. Ousland and Gamme) I would personally be inclined to put the standard NNN BC manuals (not magnums). But that is simply a personal preference. I do have the wider magnums on my Asnes Rago (57 mm waist) ...
