Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

I've had some discussions from people in that area before, I might be able to get someone to shuttle me up on a snowmobile, I'm kind of free with time, as in a few weeks but I'm thinking at least 5 days, but depends on the weather being cooperative as well, I originally wasn't even thinking about th...

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

Ya, those are some pretty stiff skis, lol Another part of the story is that even getting to the Trailhead will be a journey, as you can only get so far to it by vehicle then you have to ski the rest of the way up the road to the Trailhead, so possibly 14-15 miles of skiing on snow covered road just ...

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

Lilcliffy, are you saying that's bad overpowering them or that it's a good thing since they are beasts, lol I've also got some Fischer BCX675 boots but I was thinking being in the backcountry in all kind of conditions the plastics might be a better option, warmer feet.

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

Lilcliffy, the only other skis I have are these waxable ASNES usgi army surplus skis with the Voile 3 pin Traverse binding on them, aka the 210cm beasts, lol

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

STG, Ya, I remember that terrain from my last hike dropping down from Eklund lake, that area as well as several other parts of the trail were torn up from all the pack horses, I assume I won't have to dodge all the horse #$*%# during the winter, lol.. I've been looking for some ski crampons but not ...

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

Lilcliffy, I think I could end up with all kinds of snow conditions in that area, though like anywhere else depending on the year, weather conditions, snow amounts vary. Though right now the temp is -27 windchill of -40 and lots of snow on the way, luckily I'm not going this month, lol

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

I've got kicker skins, I've heard of using f4 glide wax on waxless skis , you're saying to use some kick wax on them as well, got that as well, did you cut your skins to fit your skis, also with the waist of 68 underfoot, ski crampons mostly come in larger widths, would 83mm crampons be to wide?

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

lilcliffy, My plan isn't to ski any steep couloir's or steep mountainous passes, just mainly to get from point A to point B, preferably in one piece, The skis I setup are Madshus Epoch with Voile Hardwires and Scott Excursion boots. The trail is mostly rocky, trees on both sides at times, some open ...

Re: To kicker skin or not to kicker skin that is the question?

MikeK, I"ve only hiked a section of it, went in around 8 miles and back out, guess it will be an adventure for sure. I think due to the glacier area and being a total newb on Skis, I might at times feel more comfortable using snowshoes, I guess until I actually get there and get some skiing in, I wo...
