Re: Mikaela Shiffrin

Cannatonic: Yea, you are so right about making assumptions about about people in popular culture (e.g., TV people). We form a narrative that my have no basis in reality. I think social media may also creates a false illusion of intimacy and understanding. Why aren't the courses safer? Good question....

Re: Mikaela Shiffrin

The fun will begin when they can all go back to free-skiing. Being an introvert and non-competitive person, I feel nausea and anxiety just watching the events, but I do appreciate and value their skills, tenacity, commitment and discipline. Those qualities will aid them in life long after their ski ...

Re: "upgrade" to pins?

Cannatonic:

Thanks for mentioning the article about early trail blazers (nordic downhill); will definitely check it out. I have to confess I still use three-pins with no cables. But I don't have the skill level that Allan Bard or the other legends of the 70's and 80's had.

Re: "upgrade" to pins?

Thoughtful comments and informed opinions. My conclusion: there is no ski/system that will do it all (touring or downhill). If you have the money, invest in gear and experiment. Using different equipment requires adaptation, nuance and versatility in your ski technique. This might make you a more ski...

Re: Scary adjectives for winter storms- opinion?

Nice tracks and great pow! Always better when you have the trail to yourself. I know some people in Colorado that drool when they see the snow that hammered the East.

Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video

Great video and thoughtful comments! As a light-weight small XX person I will never be able to ski like Harris or probably most of the guys on this forum. Experience has taught me that I must do the following if I want to execute a telemark turn and not end up doing a face or butt plant: tight stanc...

Being XX, I appreciate that Asnes is designing some skis for women.

Re: What would you add to the ski rack if money didn't matter?

I would purchase only one pair of skis because I get overwhelmed with choice when I have many skis in my closet. I would opt for the Asnes Cecilie BC.

iBjorn:

Think you are right on about the risers. Not needed except in limited circumstances.

Re: And they say Telemark skiing is dead and rotting.

Harris: I know you are a hard core downhill tele skier so I get that it can be hard on your knees even if you mix up turns. I really think that a free heel is so much better for the backcountry and allows a more natural movement and less resistant. That said, I have not skied on contemporary AT gear...
