Re: Complete skiing. Near perfect continuity between flats, uphills and downhills.

I keep trying to like adjustable poles but end up not using them. Not sure why. I'm usually happy w/ 145 or 155 fixed. I guess I'm not doing much pole-planting on the downhills and 145 seems OK to me. To me the best feature of adjustables is they collapse down to fit into the pack better, good for s...

Re: 2019 ALFA Guard Advance GTX M Boots Review

European companies seem to struggle with the conversions - can't say I blame them. Once your know your EU size (the number in the 40's) it's always better to try to use that number to order, I've found. The Italian boots from Andrew and Alico are often mis-marked - they often confuse UK and US sizes...

Re: Åsnes Nansen Waxless

I must be on tape delay, I won't see the sprint race until tonight - I just watched the Norwegian men wipe out everyone else on a distance race in Sweden - 15k maybe??? 7 of the top 8 finishers from Norge, edging out a Russian guy at the finish line. I tried adding kick wax to my waxless 205 MT51 fo...

Re: Another new Rotte binding

jeebus, I gotta go check my toilet! Crispi Antarctic are super-nice boots for this type of setup, much lighter than Ski March and narrower. If you truly have narrow feet I'd look out for used Scarpa leathers, IMO they have the narrowest last I've seen. as pictured that is a SOLID setup for tel...

Re: Total newb, looking for advice.

I would call this backcountry XC skiing, you're going to want something in 210cm for speed & flotation. I like the E99 recommendation, I wouldn't go any wider than this ski. Not sure how much you want to spend. It's going to be easier to find a selection of boots in NNNBC and if you're not doing tel...

Re: Ski Movies

Bill Koch definitely inspired me in childhood! I'm sure he was a hero role model for many people that are nordic skiing today. today I mention his name and most people have no idea what I'm taking about

Re: Emerging from the lurk

thanks for posting the story! Sounds like you're living the dream to me, in Edward Abbey territory, must be awesome! Would love to see some pics of your local adventures. Here in New England we have a lot of hiking and peakbagging enthusiasts, in fact, many of the alpine peaks we have are visited mo...

Re: Alico Ski March Boot

OK, you've gone off the deep end now!  cutting up plastic parts - you've become a cobbler! this reminds me of the early snowboarding days - 80s - where people used Sorel pack boots and most companies didn't make snowboard boots. I remember cutting up a recycling bin into various shi...
