Re: Equipment upgrade from skinny skis
So thanks once again all who chimed in with advice. In the end I went for a mellow upgrade and found items that fit at good end of season pricing. Ended up with 200cm Fisher E99 waxable easy skin skis, Rotefella NNN-BC manual bindings and Rossignol X-10 boots. I genuinely believe the only boots my ...

Re: Equipment upgrade from skinny skis
Thanks, I think less easy turns and more straight line performance is what I'm seeking, glad to hear about that. I will check the review section! That makes things a little clearer. Go for a Fischer E99/Asnes Gamme then. Other brands such as Madshus make similar class skis. Ask you sales rep for eq...

Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Ingstad BC
I think this is the ski I need. I’m starting to get into really long days (50-60km) and deep multi day traverses. My objectives are a ton of fun, but I think not efficient enough over that kind of distance. My one worry is how to try and find out just how steep I can ski something this cambered. So...

Re: Fischer E-99 getting a makeover/name change?
VERY interested. Once Asnes has perfected a waxless-scaled verson of the Gamme 54 I will have one. I don't know if I would call it the "Telemark ski" though... I think that the Nansen is Asnes' old-school Telemark ski. The Gamme- as is the E99 (oops does this ski still exist   )- is m...

@The GCW, If you can't return them for a refund/replacement, the better news is that that is repairable. Just bring em to your trusted cobbler.

Re: LilCliffy's Nordic Backcountry Touring Waxing
lilcliffy , we are not the first to ski on this planet, that's fo sure. Check out this oldschool ski prep advice from Jacques Powell (from the Laurentians, Québec): Mise en garde : Les boutiques offrent généralement de préparer gratuitement la base des nouveaux skis. À PROSCRIRE! En effet, les bout...

Re: Equipment upgrade from skinny skis
I prefer to be "heavy" for my skis but opinions differ on this subject! I do think that shorter skis are better for the Laurentians though - the snow is hard-packed and often icy, the hills are short and often very steep, the trails are narrow and turn sharply and frequently, and the only flat part...

Re: Equipment upgrade from skinny skis
Please give us more details as to where these trails are. I am from Québec so know the terrain quite well. Unlike Al, I would argue that if your main objective is to have greater control on the down BUT your outings are mostly of the cross-country sort, in hilly trails, I think you might be better o...
