A strike against 3 pins in this match up -- that cannot be done without swapping the 3 pin bindings on that ski as there is a left and a right binding.MikeK wrote:You'd have to switch bindings L&R and take your weak leg out of the equation...

Re: 22 Designs first NTN binding - Outlaw
Sounds like you're committed to NTN, and if that's the case, go with the Outlaw. Rotte's NTN bindings either break a lot (Freeride) or spontaneously pop into tour mode (Freedom): http://www.backcountrytalk.earnyourturns.com/vb/showthread.php?1313-NTN-Freedom-binding-popping-into-tour-mode-while-turn...

Re: Voile Hardwire 3-Pin for touring/resort ?
I think this discussion shows that, 90% of the equation depends on the skier and not the skis, and you cannot convince the other of the folly of his views.

Re: Free-pivot Nordic touring??
If you are interested in free-pivot bindings, I would urge you to demo them though because they are really weird when touring if you are used to the resistance from 3-pins or even NNN. I would second that and even be more specific, try Voile Switchbacks (not the X2 version if you are coming from 3 ...

Re: Free-pivot Nordic touring??
OK- cool-I apologize for my ignorance about these bindings. So- in tour/free-pivot mode, the boot is free to flex? That clears it up to me...I was under the impression that in tour/free-pivot mode, the base of the binding becomes rigid, with the only point of movement being at the pivot joint (i.e....

Re: Free-pivot Nordic touring??
The only conclusion I can come to is that skiers that are experiencing this, are primarily climbing and downhill skiing when on "tour". The performance advantage of a free-pivot binding when climbing cannot be underestimated. Once it gets steep enough , it is the skin that is providing all the trac...

Re: Voile Hardwire 3-Pin for touring/resort ?
What I don't agree with is a free-pivot binding for K&G touring. I don't think anyone made a claim to the contrary, and if I did, chalk it up to poor writing. There's no question that a free pivot binding is more efficient for climbing than a 3 pin binding. But the Hardwire binding is a fine compro...

Re: Voile Hardwire 3-Pin for touring/resort ?
FWIW, Voile rates their performance/flex as "active," which is more than the Switchback's "moderate" but less than the X2's "aggressive." Nothing can beat a good 'ole Rottefella Super Tele for pins. Neutral and the bales are perfect! Entirely depends on the terrain you're skiing. So, in terms of ab...

Re: Voile Hardwire 3-Pin for touring/resort ?
It can work fairly well touring too because you can lock the rods down behind the heel and rely on the three pin mechanism to go up. Some prefer hiking that way, though I personally think a free pivot is better since it is more efficient. But for sharp turns on the skin track, the small resistance o...

Re: Voile Hardwire 3-Pin for touring/resort ?
But these only have 3 screws right? Not sure this would stand my 180 pounds of joy down the hill.. I'm pretty sure you mount the riser plate to the ski with the standard 4-hole tele pattern and then mount the toe plate to the riser with 3 screws. And I agree with TomH. They'll serve you well. Switc...
