Re: Finally!

Plenty of snow here in parts of the UP if you can make the long drive. Hit the Porkies or Bohemia! In some of the hills, there's 3 feet of base with fluffy LES on top. Best early season in many years. Not so much at lower elevations down by the lake though.

Re: Women's NNN-BC boots

Good thread Woods! Warmth and fit are a big problem for my gf's feet. It took 3 tries to get the right fitting Excursions for her. I don't want to dole out the cabbage for Alaskas if at all possible, so does anyone have suggestions for earlier versions of NNN-bc boots that I should look out for used...

Re: What bindings to pair with Altai Kom skis

Anyone try these with Burnt Mtn spike 3 pin binding? Those bindings were on a pair of skis I borrowed a few years ago, and I liked them a lot. I mounted Koms with BMD Spike 3-pins. It is a perfect pairing IMO. The bindings are a step-in no fuss or fiddle design with plenty of power to control the K...

Re: Best Wax for Snow Dust, Frosted Leaves & Grass

Plenty of snow up high here in the UP. And about the best wax question: scales. Good to hear from you Conny. I didn't think you had much snow. I have been checking the snow reports for Marquette Mt, they finally opened yesterday with one chair. Are you trai skiing, or is there enough snow for some ...

Re: Ski for heavyweights

The longest they made BC65s is 195. Maybe a pair of 195 Guides/Annums? Otherwise, maybe a pair of those Asnes USGI skis in 210.

Got up to ski camp today. There's a foot of fluffy LES without ANY base. Good for K+G but bad for turns. It was down to 9F last night and it sure seems like wither has set in. I am not even remotely ready.

Re: New Boots/Different BSL - Does Binding need remounted?

Not sure which Voile bindings you have, but SB and X2's have heel pads that are mounted with 2 screws that allow you to loosen them and slide the heel pad a bit. Pry up the bung and you'll see what I mean. that being said, I bet you won't notice a difference if you move the heel pad or not.

Re: Voile Objective BC observations and questions

Bedford, the scales in front of your feet will probably give you grip in everything but the hardest snow even though they don't come in contact with the floor. Agreed 100% The scales in front of the toe help immensely when climbing in soft snow (breaking trail). These skis are not traditional XC sk...

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

Still stuck in town with "only" 2 feet of fresh snow. There's 3+ feet of fresh in the hills. The local ski hill closed a couple weeks ago so we skinned and skied deep, dry powder until exhaustion.

Does this look like spring?
