Re: Boots size
I recently purchased the Alico Ski March from Telemark Pyrenees. I gather from others on this forum that these are not identical (?) to the UK surplus Alico Ski March boots. Anyways, for the ones I bought, I purchased a size 42 - I wear a tennis shoe size US 9, sometimes 8.5 in US boot sizes (for bo...

Re: Free-pivot Nordic touring??
Dusting off a really old thread because I have a related question: I am setting up my first set of 75mm telemark skis. I'm motivated by increasing my ability to handle varied snow conditions (resort / chopped powder / ice / deep powder) over my FT62+NNN-BC+Alaskas setup. I'm sticking with leather bo...

Re: I could turn last week, but not this week, maybe next week?
I’ve had same experience. I’m learning on light tele equipment with NNN-BC and I while I admit that my technique is a work in progress, small variations in snow conditions seem to change my abilities to drop a knee a lot. (Non icy groomers -> easy, consistent powder -> easy, pushed around heavy sno...

Re: Soft shell jackets for skiing
I do not claim to have read most of the replies to the OP question, but at a quick glance at many, many replies I was shocked I didn't see one obvious answer: cross country skiing / nordic jackets (the kind usually marketed as for "cold" conditions vs warmer or race conditions). They more or less ex...

Re: Canadian Ski Marathon
I'm also interested in this discussion: what gear for CdB. Track/race skis or something more backcountry oriented? I'd hate to have to herringbone climb in backcountry skis much, not sure if the CdB has much herringbone pitches? My BC flatland gear is the USGI surplus skis with Alaskas/NNN-BC, which...

Re: Did not regret going XCD over splitboard or AT this year!
That is so cool! I have a similar setup but with alpina Alaska. I just did my first resort skiing of the season last week on alpine skis. After reading your post, I'm wondering if my setup could handle a resort? I'm at bellearye in the catskills. It was so icy last week, even the moderate and begin...

Re: Trail breaking ski
While a lot of us, including myself, have recommended 210 cm USGIs, the OP is definitely right that any sort of herringbone climbing in powder with the USGIs is a BEAR. You will be sweating in 5 min, even if 10-below F. (Which, you need to manage carefully when it's 10-below.) They are heavy skis, i...

Re: Trail breaking ski
+1 for Asnes USGI, definitely at your weight in 210 cm. I am about 180 lb and this is what I use BC on flat untracked terrain in northern MN. With these skis I often look behind me and admire the track, it almost looks machine groomed. They have a nice high tip, unlike some modern BC skis, which rea...
