Re: old wool pants for skiing

Heavy wool pants are too hot for me to ski in. They aren't windproof either, I've had better luck with carharts when it's windy. My favorite pair were old military medium weight. They were loose enough that I could roll them up to my knees and they still let air flow up for ventilation. They were hi...

Re: PSA: milsurp Scarpa T4s

I just skied some Excursions last season and was very impressed with them compared to T4s. They are not as tall or stiff as T4s and are lighter. My Excursions are an early version from the 90s if that matters. The T4s stiffness gives you more power, but I think the softer smoother flex of the Excurs...

Re: Ski For Medium Length Tours

Hey John, I noticed you didn't mention boots, but they will make a huge difference in the capability of a particular ski. In good conditions you could be good with an xcd boot. the same tour in lousy conditions might require a light plastic boot like T4 or Excusions. For example I bought Madshus P68...

Re: Summer projects?

The bugs (mosquitoes) in south central Ak. aren't much different then what you would expect to find in similar forested and damp conditions in the lower 48. They're nothing like the swarms you find further north in the interior of the state.

Re: Style

I think it shows a good example of staying centered over his skis as his body is not getting thrown around at all. He is charging hard and staying tight to the fall line doing little to control speed. I think his fore /aft weight distribution is pretty even. He's definitely not front ski heavy. His ...

This was from last weekend at Belleayre Mountain in the Catskills. We saw a few other telemarkers anyone else skiing there?

The last time I skied Belleayre was in 1969. We had some races there (alpine) when I was in H.S.
So I guess you're an East Coast guy. Are you from NY?

That looked like a fantastic trip rando, and great pictures. It's nice to go back to places where your friends with the locals.
