Re: Seeking Advice for Self-Made Ski Skins

I've made several pairs of skins for my skimo/tele skis by buying fat skins and cutting them in half the long way. Once you rip skins skimo style, you'll never go back! For attachment, I've used the fancy Dynafit rubber knob tip thingies, but I've found a good ol' knotted piece of bungee rope works ...

Re: Skiing after Dark?

As an avid dawn patroller, I can tell you that the Coast FL85R is the headlamp you want. 700 lumens, small red led for ascending, big buttons you can squeeze with mittens, and no annoying overhead strap. And it's $60 from Home Depot.

Re: Favorite daypack for half-day trips?

The Mammut Spindrift 26 is a tremendous pack. It has giant compartments integrated into the waistbelt, so the weight rides much lower (and you can access lots of stuff without taking the pack off). https://www.mammut.com/us/en/p/2550-00020-00150/spindrift-26/ https://content.backcountry.com/images/i...

Re: HyperV6 + NNNBC- crazy idea?

I think your issue will be the width more than the weight. To get power to the edge of a ski with a ~98mm waist (in anything other than real soft snow), you're gonna want a boot with a tall, stiff cuff. I tried skiing my Black Diamond Carbon Aspects (90mm underfoot) with Rossignol BCX12 75mm boots a...

Re: Thinking about new boots, 75mm vs NTN, from my perspective.

If you are touring tele nothing at this time beats the new T2 eco. They have more ROM than the Tx Pros, lighter, and feel more like soft warm slippers on long tours. Have you tried a Telemark Tech System (TTS) binding with a Scarpa F1 boot? It's like night and day compared to any type of 75mm or NT...

Re: Thinking about new boots, 75mm vs NTN, from my perspective.

I remember reading a while back one of the binding manufacturers (maybe 22 Designs) was being very relaxed with their Research & Development with new binding enhancements because their business model lags behind the boot business, and the boots are just changing too much, too quickly. Duck butts, a...

I don't think the toe extension on an AT or NTN toe has enough lever arm for the bumper concept to work... I even considered using BTS Dynafit toe fitting as an aft pivot point and then using the regular toe fitting to act as a bumper Yes, I agree. You'd need to build up a big tall square-ish front...

SWEET JESUS Bobby... You have been digging very deep since you crossposted my post on EYT... Wow, this Rotte prototype is just awesome... Spring loaded, but it seems like there is two attachment points? Some kind of crossover between the Salomon pilot and NTN duckbutts!?! Wow, wow and WOW! So that ...

Re: Johnny, Pierre, and the beast. Or the new Telemark Tech Norm (TTN) vs the future of XCD (NTN-BC)

I like the idea of going without any connections aft of the toe, for weight savings, simplicity, and quick/easy transitions. Even if the problem of the toepiece lock lever being in the way could be solved, I don't think a simple rubber NNN-style toe bumper would be able to give the right feel for ma...

Great post! It's an exciting time for our sport, with so many ways to have freeheeled fun on snow. I agree 100% that Dynafit-style 2-pin toes are the way forward, for all forms of freeheel skiing that involve enjoying the turns you make. A couple thoughts: PERFECT cross-country skiing, and PERFECT d...
