This weekend I wanted to match the photographic excellence of Steeleman and the S. Brothers on Shasta, but high temps--it isn't freezing until 11K+--might get me on my mountain bike instead. Crying or Very sad

Here's a couple random tidbits of info for people headed up that way:

Shasta climbing report:
http://www.shastaavalanche.org/reports.htm

Live ShastaCam:
http://www.shastacam.com/

You need a summit pass (can buy at ranger stations or open trailheads), but this year they stopped requiring the separate parking pass.

!@#$%$#!!!!!! just typed up a long ass report and hit the tab key and it disappeared. soooo, long story short....... drove to shasta from tahoe and climbed the hotlum-wintoon fri night leaving at 1 am sleepless from the brewer creek trailhead and summitting at 8 am. skied the ascent route in great corn all the way till the suncups down low tortured our weary legs back to the trail. back in tahoe in under 24 hours delerious and whooped, but oh-so satisfied. the h-w route is still in great shape w/ the best snow on easterly aspects like the top of the wintoon and you can still catch the snow right where the brewer creek trail ends.
