Mitch or someone?
Is there a backup of the old posts, and youre working on it?
Or is it lost forever?
I know backing up things can take time, just wondering how bad it is. |

I just realized that the cached PM's are gone too. That is a bummer since I saved several that I received that were working on planning trips for later this winter. |

| Thich Nhat Han wrote: | Nothing remains the same for two consecutive moments. Heraclitus said we can never bathe twice in the same river. Confucius, while looking at a stream, said, "It is always flowing, day and night." The Buddha implored us not just to talk about impermanence, but to use it as an instrument to help us penetrate deeply into reality and obtain liberating insight. We may be tempted to say that because things are impermanent, there is suffering. But the Buddha encouraged us to look again. Without impermanence, life is not possible. How can we transform our suffering if things are not impermanent? How can our daughter grow up into a beautiful young lady? How can the situation in the world improve? We need impermanence for social justice and for hope.
If you suffer, it is not because things are impermanent. It is because you believe things are permanent. When a flower dies, you don't suffer much, because you understand that flowers are impermanent. But you cannot accept the impermanence of your beloved one, and you suffer deeply when she passes away.
If you look deeply into impermanence, you will do your best to make her happy right now. Aware of impermanence, you become positive, loving and wise. Impermanence is good news. Without impermanence, nothing would be possible. With impermanence, every door is open for change. Impermanence is an instrument for our liberation. |

The posts between Sept 2003 and Dec 3 are gone. The site was attacked and the intruder once discoved became immediately destructive. Most of the Video and the static parts of site Mitch fortunately either had backups or I was able to recover. However, much is not avaliable yet because we focused on getting the site up and running. So pretty much all the stuff that was stored in "freeheelskier.com" domain hasn't been brought online yet. The indexing pages were laced with the attacker's grafitti. Rght now we really don't want to get into the nitty gritty of the attack as it is being investigated.
The post database From Sep 2003 till the attack this past Thursday was destoyed and overwritten making it a lost cause. I was down to wiring sectors together and its way too far gone to recover. There wasn't a backup to restore it from. The older forum (prior to Sep 2003) looks mostly intact but has to be put back together by hand.
With the recovery we put the talk site on a much more capaible server, with all software updated to current levels and stronger security protection. I will work with Mitch on scheduled backups of the post database and the site content.
Please be patient Its gonna take a week or two to get it all sorted out. _________________ I hope I can be in a binder one day...

Ditto. Thanks for the update, Gwen. Those of us with some technical knowledge appreciate it.
And to Mitch, Gwen, and any & all others involved in the recovery: Thanks & good job on recovering so quickly. 3 days for a full site rebuild is not bad! |

Thanks for the explanation Gwen. I don't understand the mindset of hackers. Don't they have anything better to do with their time? If discovered I suggest that they be prosecuted to the maximum. _________________ "Pushing my comfort zone to learn exciting new lessons." |

Thanks to Mitch, Gwen, and anyone else who has worked so tirelessly to get this board back up this quickly. I am amazed. Considering the magnitude and virulence of the attack, I would have expected the Board to remain down for several more days at least.

| Thanks Gwen, Mitch and everyone else involved for getting this back up and running. I was about to turn myself in to the hospital for an addiction program. |

Festival and event organizers, remember to re-post in the events forum.
Mitch, Gwen -- thanks for the work. Rebuilding a server like this is a huge job (they say don't sweat the details, but it's all details).
