The hardware:
Durable, easy to clean, travels well, makes happy good morning sound while perking, slight metallic taste preferable to even the smallest "hints of grilled steak and maybe some mushroom" or "honey nut cheerios" in the final brew. _________________ "Lower me up!" |

it's been a couple of months ago since I did it - but as I recall the coffee is free they just ask for the $4 for the shipping - so if you put two in your cart it should come to $8 with no shipping - please correct me if I'm wrong though
edited to add: they do keep your email address although I'm sure you could opt out and they keep a record of your account so you can only do it once |

Last bottle I bought (over a year ago) ~$6/bottle.
You hit on an interesting point. I almost never buy liquor. If I have a bottle it is 99% likely that it was a gift. I just have a really hard time justifying the expense. YMMV. _________________ "To me Plastic boots are kind of like a condom on the experience." -light skier-

the older I get the less I consume drugs and alcohol
coffee - 1 latte every morning made at home - very special to me
liquor - prefer single malt Scotch
beer - locally brewed and dark
wine - I'll try anything that wholesales between $6 and $20 although I may opt for 1 glass rather than the usual 3 I get when I drink a nice one with my wife
tobacco - bad topic right now in my family, but who can resist a puro?
pretty cliche as they are all acquired eurocentric tastes, guess you can't fight who you are, right?
illicit goes along the same lines - less quantity more quality |

The camp perker is traditional but I sought another way (don't really care for perked coffee). My car camping rig:
12 cup moka pot, yard sale find. Will caffeinate a large group. I have a small one for 1-2 people, although admittedly I rarely carry it backpacking. |

I like beer, but don't like the effects much anymore. Seriously. Weird juju. Same with wine. Coffee's my only drug...about 3 small cups a day. If I had cheap, quality espresso I'd be on 3 americanos a day. I don't, though.
Haven't smoked tobacco in years. Even longer for the wacky variety. But, I am a parent. It does make a difference. It's my career of choice, and doesn't leave much room or time for intoxicants. I get high on my daughters' smiles. _________________ "To me Plastic boots are kind of like a condom on the experience." -light skier-

I went for the sample deal.....Sometimes the more it costs, the more it's worth
I have a coffee buddy who's coming to town and the thought of offering him $50/lb coffee seems interesting. I'm curious if the bags will be "date-stamped" which is the innovation employed by Bluebottle down in the Bay Area. Maybe we'll try a blind tasting (of espresso shots).... trying the Oregon coffees against some of that stuff and my own home roasted (I buy greens @ $5-6lb from Sweet Maria's)..... Frankly, a nice blend (with a good proportion of the bigger, cheaper low grown beans--for body, etc.) seems just fine to me, if it's roasted properly and reasonably fresh. The up-charging on "drugs" never ceases to amaze me.....
Local roasters around here have plenty of decent offerings in the $12-15 range which is what I charge my customer/friends if they "need" beans. I think this sort of cooperative model is the way to go....I just need to get/build myself a better (and higher capacity) roaster, so I can start buying bigger (cheaper) bags direct from the importers.....
C-Hoser.... Cheap espresso? I've got some grinders and Gaggia (home) machines ClydesMom wouldn't mind me getting out of the house.....PM me if you're innerested..... |

I drink drip when I'm camping, but I don't drink it at the house anymore.
I blame Snowflower and Baetis.

I second the rectum free coffee, not that I have tried the other kind. _________________ formerly TeleScott |

I was not aware of the colo-rectal coffee. My idea of good coffee comes from these folks in the form of peaberry. When I worked in Hawai‘i last summer, these folks peddled this stuff brewed at the farm market. Pretty awesome. _________________ 28 pages of blah, blah, blah. -Grant

I just drink the free shit at work, black. The horrible taste snaps me out of my stupor easily as well as the caffeine. _________________ Control is never achieved when sought after directly. It is the surprising outcome of letting go. |

I worked at a place that had one of those pod machines. $50/lb for the coffee in those pods I think I'll stick with the expensive good coffee. _________________ 28 pages of blah, blah, blah. -Grant

| I checked out the Deep Cello offer. Looks like you pay shipping so total is $11.95 for 12 to 16 ounces. Not bad if you end up with the full pound. I wish I could afford to drink $15/lb coffee all the time because yes, as previously mentioned, you get what you pay for. |
