Rob, and it's been 22 days since my last ski. I'm on an MTB based maintenance plan. _________________ "Moderate is not the new Low" - Chris Joosen, USFS Lead Snow Ranger (Tuckerman Ravine, White Mountains National Forest) |

Visited with a ski friend yesterday. They haven't been getting in any of the huge Corn Harvest, doesn't want to deal with boots and skins. I thought they had a problem. Maybe its ME

I am Rod from QC... The last time I skied was late april. Pretty bad year with a march heat wave... Usally we are skiing till mid may.
I was at the beach this week-end--beautifull sunny day--kids were playing and we were relaxing... a friend and I got into this ski discussion about BC traks we saw while driving... our friends taught we were crazy. It is one of the national sports here--hating winter... |

| A few years ago, a friend sent me a "Problem Skiers' Checklist" (modified from one of those problem drinking checklists). Questions like "Have you ever lied to people about going skiing?" and "Have you ever missed work because of skiing?" I was able to happily answer "yes" to every question, including "Have you ever been hospitalized for something you did while you were skiing?" |

| I can answer yes to all of those for the last month. I prefer the word fib in this context. |

I thought I had it under control until I read this.
Although I'm having to do other things lately because the skiing is too lean, far, or just all done around here. I'm going to hit some 14ers this weekend and maybe just daydream about skiing some. _________________ There cannot be pleasure without pain. -Skerik

My name is Aaron and I am a recovering ski addict. A couple of years ago I realized I had a problem. Since I basically stopped skiing for the past couple years, other than sneaking In a couple of runs, I am now working more than ever and I am completely unhappy, but I am clean, warm and most of my bills are paid.
Take it from me....ski bumming isn't so bad. Work life is challanging beyond belief.
Good luck on your journey.
I hope to sneak back into the scene this coming winter....we'll see if I can get out of this office and strap on some sticks! Lie, swear, sweat, tears of joy. Sign me up. |

• had times when you ended up skiing more, or longer, than you intended?
• more than once wanted to cut down or stop skiing, or tried to, but couldn't?
• more than once gotten into situations while or after skiing that increased your chances of getting hurt (such as driving, swimming, using machinery, walking in a dangerous area, or having unsafe sex)?
• had to ski much more than you once did to get the effect you want? Or found that your usual number of skis had much less effect than before?
• spent a lot of time skiing? Or being sick or getting over other aftereffects?
• continued to ski even though it was causing trouble with your family or friends?
• found that skiing—or being sore from skiing—often interfered with taking care of your home or family? Or caused job troubles? Or school problems?
• given up or cut back on activities that were important or interesting to you, or gave you pleasure, in order to ski?
• more than once gotten arrested, been held at a police station, or had other legal problems because of your skiing?
• found that when the effects of winter were wearing off, you had withdrawal symptoms, such as trouble sleeping, shakiness, restlessness, nausea, sweating, a racing heart, or a seizure? Or sensed things that were not there? _________________ “I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.” Kurt Vonnegut |

Name is Diablo, not a skiaholic, sortof a powderaholic, wont even bother w ice anymore (prefer a good book to ice), averaged only 50 days a year for last 25 years which is way below most here, knees are displeased, doc won't give me more NSAIDs, pretty sure I'll start learning snowboard this next season _________________ If you are doing less than loving whatever you are giving your attention to, you are not who you were really born to be.

Me too! I'm just not ready.
Now that I have turned my son on to skiing I have another enabler right at home. But it makes me feel less guilty because I'm not neglecting him (as much) when I ski. _________________ There cannot be pleasure without pain. -Skerik

I can ski 5 days in a row and still feel like I have not skied in ages.
Do I have a problem? |

We ski and talk about where to ski next. At happy hour we talk about how awesome the skiing was. At dinner, more ski talk. We go to bed thinking how we can't wait to ski tomorrow. All we want to do during the summer is to go skiing.
Yes, there is the occasional "distraction." But no. No, we don't have a problem. _________________ Obama's IRS: Dept. of Tolerance, Punish Your Enemies Division. Sgt. Schultz, Director |

Quit?
wow, I do not know?
Ya know how young guys think about sex every 5 seconds?
It's kinda like that with skiing for me.
Why would anybody quit? |
