So you are advocating self-control, cesare. Isn't that what the OP is asking for as well? Fact is, an overabundance of RIP threads only became an issue fairly recently.

The problem is not with RIP threads whether for ski heroes, cultural icons or your dog's groomer.

The problem is a small number of posters who carry on in a way they never would in actual real world contact with others. Coming back over and over and over and over to present counter-counter-counter arguments, examples, diversions and illustrations with a persistence that would indicate a pathological need to... well, there's the rub, to do who the hell knows what?

Most of us, realizing we had somehow transgressed the bounds of accepted taste would at least back off a bit; after all, what does deliberately pissing people off about something they have told you pisses them off do? I suppose eventually it gets you a punch in the face or kicked out of the bar.

The attitude of a childish brat and the persistence of a meth head does make for an ugly spectacle though, doesn't it?

I still cannot understand how disco, double pole plants and respect for the dead has been melded into such a shit show, but then again about 90% of what motivates people is a mystery to me.
