There was a "serious" discussion several years ago in here about how most of the Gitmo detainees were "innocent goat farmers". Own it.

Most were apparently innocent.
Own it.

And on a related note, the current administration took a bold step forward and finally prosecuted an official connected to the US torture program.

Do you judge it to be immoral ? Illegal ? Innefective ? Do you think it brings resentment towards America and motivates resistance movements ?

Maybe you believe the bay was obtained via extortion and rightfully belongs to Cuba.

Nah.....Every once in a while, I just like to remind the peanut gallery in here that closing Gitmo was one of the first things Obama was going to do. Laughing Laughing

i haven't read this whole thread but you are such a dumbass loaf. your republican congress won't let "him".

i know computers are confusing to some but if you type in "guantanamo congress" where it says "google" you get something like this-

http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=guantanamo+congress&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

congress has blocked everything obama has come up with concerning guantanamo and everything else, then come around and blame him for not getting anything done, exactly like this thread has done and i am getting sick of it. meanwhile, the country rots away. if obama wanted to paint the whitehouse white, congress would block that. you righties are absolutely amazing in your self made bubble of ignorance and pomp. j

I did that Jellohead. Here's what ! found:

Quote:
But in 2009, Senate Democrats, led by Reid, cut off money to close Guantanamo, frustrating Obama's early plans to transfer prisoners there to the United States.

That came from this article which I found using your Google search.

The truth is, it's not one party or another; neither party supports this idea, for all sorts of reasons.

You're a fucking idiot.

you found one instance of the senate blocking obama instead of congress blocking him, so that supports loaf's and your insistence that it's all obama's fault that guantanamo is still open. interesting logic, you must be republicans!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

So, during his 2008 campaign, instead of promising to close Gitmo first thing, he should have said something like ..."I'll try to close Gitmo if I can get approval" ? Seems like a much different message. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Beiber Obama is such a faker.

He lip synch'ed his promise to close Gitmo and all his fans cheered.

Then he quietly issued an executive order in 2011 making indefinite detention his official policy.

And the media said nothing.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/Executive_Order_on_Periodic_Review.pdf

The detainees deserve a quick military trial and closure.

The Geneva Conventions and Habeus Corpus definitely do not apply to illegal enemy combatants in any way.

In spite of where/how the Dems seem to be standing now, there is a good chance ( 75% ? ) they will screw things up just as badly in the last two years of the Obama Admin as they did in the first two years.
