This just in from David Aguilar, Director of Public Affairs and Science Information at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
Quote:

None of us needs to be a TV weather personality to know which way the weather is going tomorrow for the transit of Venus. I believe the word is "South".

In lieu of being able to view this event through solar telescopes up on the roof here at 60 Garden Street, we will open up Phillips Auditorium between 5:45 pm to 8:30 pm to watch a live web cast from Mauna Kea (where the sun is shining).

Please join us here or if you would like to experience the transit from home, the following web sites will offer continuous views of the event. - D

Based on the forecast, I'm sure this will be as exciting as the annular eclipse was in Seattle!

June 5 is [today], and that's when it is, in the western US anyway

Partly Cloudy is the forecast I have. Hopefully not too cloudy. I've been assembling my solar filter made from a $25 piece of what looks just like Mylar, cardboard, and glue over the past few days. I don't want to have to wait 105 years to use it!

I move that all these astro-threads be prefaced with, "Greetings, greetings, greetings, star-hustlers!"

I noticed that at some point someone must of thought a sort of creepy guy (RIP) called the "Star Hustler" maybe wasn't the best name and they changed it to "Star Gazer" ("Star F*****" must have already been taken)

A dozen or so I think. The glue just dried so I haven't shot through it yet. I'm hoping to try some test shots this afternoon from my office roof before trying to get a nice composition later this evening. At least I get a little more time to figure it out than with an eclipse!
