I sent the picture to my dad who is a bit of an expert on snakes, confirms steves bullsnake verdict. Harmless but they do have a bad attitude.

Not just harmless, but beneficial. They do a heck of a job of keeping the hanta-virus carrying deer mice in check. Still, it's not fun to step out onto the enclosed porch and find one coming in through the open door as my wife did the other day.

damn thing was socializing with my hoses. i thought i had a leak but the water was off. thanks for confirmation. it can hang out if it stops with the threats, otherwise time to move it. j

They make really lousy pets. They always want to bite you when you try to pet them.

Lots of "harmless" snakes can still take finger off if you don't leave them alone. You just need to encourage this useful creature to find a new hangout.
