I dunno, the guy I'm thinking of was doing big things in the old B&W Couloir magazines 20 years ago. Could be as old as ATA Wink

Cool stuff, ATA on the video. I was looking at all sorts of potential placements for pins, as it got steeper. Leave them in for the descent, or an emergency rappel, too.
I too would have roped up for a lot (all?) of that stuff, but as they say, speed is safety.

Could be..I was probably thinking of this guy-

http://www.earnyourturns.com/2500/the-giants-steps-couloir-mt-williamson-14375/

Which doesn't fit with JPLs OT history as "John" -
However, I'm probably dang near as old as Andrew and I get mixed up on all this fancy internets stuff sometimes.

Do carry on.

I was doing that too. The lower section looked super steep.

Now that was funny.

Can you imagine how upset carl must get when the neighbor's dog poops on his lawn?

Give it rest X-man. The way you took Carl's quote out of context and the fact that your only purpose here is to chase down and berate others explains all I need to know about you.

Hey, I've made friends here!

I guess I can see how you might want to defend poor old Ron, you seem like a nice guy, but carl? Are you kidding me? You have to admit, it would be a sad sad copulatin day on the Interwebz when a major asshat douchebag like carl can't get chased down and berated at least daily. Laughing

I have to agree with WBW that is pretty funny.

I chirp at Carl all the time and he gives me plenty of crap. The thing is both of us leave it in the thread that started it and don't chase each other all over the forum. I also think like your post above he is funny as hell most of the time.

the "tiny pick" on the end of a whippet is the same size as most ice axe picks JPL. Have you owned or used one? I have, many times.

Many times! And on the other hand...

You know carl, according to Bob Marley, it's the foolish dog who barks at the flying birds.

PS: Sorry you had such a bad day yesterday. It must have sucked to spend the whole week kissing ATA's ass only to have him buddy up with your arch nemesis at the 11th hour. Your dolls must have really taken a beating. Laughing

What's up with that video anyway? Pretty rad stuff, eh?

One of the better, more informative threads I've read here, and it speaks to an issue I've been thinking a lot about this spring, mitigating some of the risk of climbing and skiing hard snow in the bc.

I support the basic idea that beginners learn to use an ice axe while cramponing. It's a basic skill that should not be skipped over in immediate favor of a whippet. On the other thread it was mentioned that they go together, and it's true. Once they know what they are doing and no longer complete novices, beginners can decide if they want to make do with the linited capability for self arrest the whippet provides, but get the basics down first.

Serious ski mountaineering rock in the video, ATA. Props especially to the guy skiing that stuff in T2s, right? Wink
