AT=Randonee, which as everybody knows is french for can't tele. |
Telemark = Norwegian for 'Wait for Me'. |

Not alpine touring...
And here's your boy Tabke and his 'touring' rig...
Is Tabke an AT skier????
Fortunately we have an AT authority in the house, right here on this very thread. So how about it ATA? Do alpine boots in 15 lb Markers make one an AT skier??? |

Yes, if that’s the rig you want…… just a little slower on the up. |

| Is there some fetish you have for shitty vidcaps X-man? Can't you go back to pointing out "bad technique" in awesome pictures? |

WOW. you are all acting like a bunch of idiots.
i read the first several pages of this thread as it evolved, because it's a topic where i've got *some* knowledge and experience, and was hoping to hone my practices, especially with a potentially serious couloir ski on the agenda in early june.
and i picked my way through the name calling to get to what are some pretty informed opinions -- and even some knowledge.
but this has gotten ridiculous. are you intentionally acting like a bunch of argumentative douchebags, or does it come naturally? (honestly, i don't even know what's been said in the past four of five pages, because i can't read a single post without scanning past in disgust)
for those of you who are actually nice, smart, cool people with actual mountaineering experience in real life, please don't lower yourself down to the level of the trolls, at least not in topics where there's actually some level of seriousness and safety involved for everyone else. _________________ Please don't dominate the rap, Jack,

TeleBear what more do you want from this thread? Milk and cookies too?
You've got ten or twelve pages of opinion, information and debate. You've got, arguably, the most accomplished ski mountaineer of his generation and the inventor of the Whippet participating. The conversation has largely been civil by interweb standards. Even JPL and stevesliva have been cordial to each other.
Now in the last few pages the conversation has gone in another direction. Why is this so distressing to you? How many more pages of ice axe vs whippet do you need? |

No, and now you are getting close to figuring out why the AT skiing in the last PW film was such a yawner. |

I agree with A-Star. Yes, its a serious subject. It's your life. Practice safely with any information you get on the internet (or anywhere else for that matter) and "dial in" any technique before you get to the big objective. |

Excellent advice carl. How many of us really practice our self-arrest techniques like we should? I suspect not many. |

Nobody is sponsoring the PWs to feature skiers in Dukes and alpine boots, so they are left with washed out tele skiers who defaulted to Fritschis and Dynafits. |

funny troll. huh? i wonder if he has only one "'touring' rig"...
or maybe he doesn't fit your mold

that link contains some details relevant to the specific subject of the thread with some photos and notation of technique. here's an example:
| Quote: | | Those who skied from the ridge had to sidestep with ice axe in hand until gaining the less steep and icy slopes below before making turns. |
also, related to the subject, did anybody see/hear about the skier fatality on the orient express? rip |

Saw that on TGR, where carl helpfully pointed out that AT Apostle has skied it. I figure that means it's an intermediate run. |
