So if AT Apostle owns and occasionally uses a pair of crosscountry skis does that make him a crosscountry skier?

So you are saying if I have Fat Alpine Skis, Stiff Alpine Boots, Alpine Bindings, and a plate I'm now an "AT Skier" that's the same as an "AT skier" with rando race gear? Suhhhhh-weeet!

and I'm completely boggled because I've no conception of what "AT Style" skiing is. If he's skiing on AT gear he's a skier on AT gear. If he's skiing on tele gear he's a skier on tele gear. If he's skiing on cross-country gear he's a skier on XC gear.

It's skiing.

What kind of milk does he drink? I need to know what kind of milk he drinks before we can talk about what kind of skier he is.

And if he's skiing on alpine gear he's an alpine skier.
Confused
The distinctions seems pretty clear to me.

So what's the difference between AT gear and Alpine gear?

So, when all is said and done, I think a pair of Whippets will raise my game enough for the S-Couloir, Des Eigles and Les Mousketiers...but just to be sure I'll take'em to Dodges first....

I must make a note to be remembering to wear my helmet and carry a tub duck in my pack too! POV testosterone should help too....

Jeeze louise guys! WTF?

There was an earnest question! Focus on the importance of being earnest!

As a general rule, if I'm going to ski it, I've found a whippet is sufficient. However, I don't consider side slipping really steep, narrow couloirs skiing. YMMV.

I think more important is the ability to recognize the point where a whippet becomes insufficient as an arresting tool and to not cross that point on those days when that's all you've got.

Agree'd. I use one or two whippits depending if I loan one out. At nearly 50deg I have yet to see a sliding fall. The few have been ragdolling cartwheeling falls..(yikes) good thing we ski short steep corny cutes with safe runouts here in the central Oregon Cascades. Tough to deterime which would be better in a ragdoll cartwheeling fall (axe or Whippit).
