X-Man doubles down on his ski technique critique and WoodyR joins the herd! More awesome from this thread

Double down? I think he went for the fence and fouled off his foot.

I hope I am next but I am probably not worthy anymore.

You've got to spend 15 or 20 years bashing telemark online while setting yourself up as the God of Extreme AT before finally being revealed as pretty much an average skier before you will become a worthy and fun target. Laughing

Carl, do you really want to argue that the AT skiing, either in the clip or the entire PW film, is anywhere near the level of the tele skiing? Laughing

Seriously. The AT guys and gals looked average at best, while one of the tele skiers, Jake Saxson, went on to take third at the Kirkwood alpine Freeskiing World Tour event this year.

So what's the last steep route you skied X-Man?

I have to admit, I've been wondering about this myself. Wink

There is some extreme long-simmering butthurt in this thread, apparently.

Andrew has been dishing out his special brand of tele hate since right after Al Gore invented the internet.

According to carl, it's always been funny to everyone but those who have a misery "stick up their ass," but really he's like a power boater on a sailing site putting down the rag men, only there he'd be called a troll.

Oh, it's not just me, I've met plenty of people who think it's funny.

Telemarkers have always had to have a good sense of humor about their sport, it's been part of the culture going back to when freeheelers were the butt of a joke segment in every Warren Miller film. Andrew is funny, and that he gets the respect here he deserves says as much about tele culture as it does about him. But that doesn't mean he's never going to get poked back, or that he hasn't earned it.

Here I thought AT was a 'license to look like you don't suck'....
telemarkers are much better at laughing at themselves than older at'ers is what i've come to realize here on the forum.
So let me reiterate, AT is the ultimate in controlled power on skis and those who are serious about 'really' skiing big mountains and lines can only really maximize their experience by going to AT gear. Of this there is no doubt!!

FWIW... I pretty much retired my axe when I got a couple of whippets, but i'm a spring skier not a mountaineer.
I do use and like ski crampons, not without their purpose at all from my perspective, when i do have to go to boot crampons on a 'ski' tour i don't sweat not having the axe when i have a couple of whippets.
Not really big on big risk exposure so with a big grain of epson salt do i even bother to post 'my' take on it.

At least all this angst is somewhat ski related. Wink

So is he funny or isn't he funny? Sure sounds like you want to be long time butthurt and claim to have a sense of humour about it.

jw - most "ATers" don't think of themselves as "ATers" and haven't for a half decade or more. They ski.

So the real question is, would the instructor of comedy 101 endorse the use of this kind of humor or is it a wreckless misuse of the wrong kind of joke?

fixed it for you
Smile Wink Wink Wink

The whippet creation is proof of that superior intellect. Very Happy Wink

If you don't find this funny, like me, perhaps you've graduated to the more nuanced comedy 102.
