Technically speaking, yes. Species have and will continue to follow the "Success to Extinction" road. We're not unique in following this path. Not particularly rational from a certain point of view... but probably pretty standard operating procedure from an evolutionary one.

Indeed, in the history of life the number of species extinctions is believed to almost equal the number of originations, and the current biodiversity we enjoy is the result of a tiny surplus of originations which have accumumlated over the course of millions of years.

As a parent you don't have ANY compelling drive to make intelligent changes that might avoid the extinction of our species? Are you really just *meh* about it?
