Hi Laura,

You are a lawyer, correct?

There is no dispute that Obama is a natural born citizen, his mother was a US Citizen, so according to the US Constitution, Obama was a natural born citizen (should I write "at birth" or is that redundant?).

Honest question, why does it matter where he was born? McCain was not born within the boundaries of the United States, nor was Romney's father, yet both were considered legitimate (read legal) candidates according to the US Constitution.

Again, another honest question, could anyone who is a lawyer and who has even cursorily studied constitutional law point to a case or law that defines "natural born citizen" as one born within the borders of the 50 United States?

Yep.

But it's not just harmless idiocy. It's hate-motivated, and has some similarities to the pernicious crap about the 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion'.

Our resident insane feminist like citing some version of federal immigration law that treated kids born to an american father different then kids born to an american mother. In other words, because his daddy wasn't american, it doesn't matter if his mom was-- only fathers were important.

It matters where he was born because different sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act would apply.

http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_5199.html

If Obama was born abroad, then the age of Obama's mother at the time she gave birth to him and how long she had resided in the US kicks in. This link explains the "age of mother" issue pretty good:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/citizen.asp

If you read both links, you will understand why it matters, unlike McCain, where Obama was born.
